Firstly--the new Firefly chapter stands at 6000 words and growing. I still intend to release it on or before New Year's. And secondly... I have tried and failed to get in touch with Gentlemanverse founder and Feathered Heart writer Demon Eyes Laharl, who it appears has pretty much dropped off the face of not just fimfiction, but the entire internet. 
He hasn't responded to pings and PMs on his old Google Docs, fanfiction account, or Skype. I guess he's moved on, unless anyone out there knows of another way to reach him...?
That being the case, I've asked the site mods what I can do, and the answer is this: I would be allowed to publish a continuation of the story under a new cover page and description. It would have to start from where the last one left off and clearly credit/reference the old story; I would NOT be allowed to republish the old chapters, even updated, unless perhaps I completely rewrite them so they're brand-new.
I'm reluctant to do that, for obvious reasons--first, it would take too long, and second, I really don't want to eclipse DEL's story. I do, however, really want to edit the previous chapters, if for no other reason than to refamiliarize myself with them. So I'm considering editing them off site in google docs or something, and then posting links to them.
Regardless, I've decided I'm going to try to finish Feathered Heart in the coming year. DEL did tell me of at least one major upcoming plot point which I will definitely incorporate, but that's about it. Beyond that, I will try to bring the story to a climax and conclusion that is both satisfying and in spirit with DEL's existing chapters, and mesh it with my own Firefly/Gentlemanverse lore in the process.
However, with this comes a request. This is a LOT of work and a massive undertaking over and above my existing writing projects, including Firefly and the Unleash the Magic series, to say nothing of my still-languishing anthro novel series. Thus, I'm going to ask for Patron donations before I get started.

Yeah, if he was last online at the beginning of Feb 2017 (has it really been that long? Wow.) I think it's safe to call the account abandoned. I say poke either the story approvers or maybe WandererD about it. Just to be safe.

Firesight's already contacted a mod and his reply fits with the spirit of existing site rules. You can't post a story that isn't yours.
Rule Two: Stories you did not write. If you are not the original author or a co-author, you cannot post it, even with permission. This includes “novelizing” a comic, movie, game, etc. that you did not create. For example: a Halo crossover with the same plot, scenes, dialogue, etc. but with the characters replaced by ponies.

that rule as written is violated so often when it comes to people writing unofficial sequels or spinoffs it isn't funny.
The rules have never been applied 100% equally though so *shrugs* he tried and that's good enough for me.
If he does get ahold of him though stories can be transfered if memory serves.

The mod said no when asked about Deathered Heart but yes, they can transfer stories.
Unexpected, but definitely welcome news!
Good luck! That's one story that definitely deserves to be finished. Hope you have fun doing it, at least!
