Hive's Redemption · 5:44pm Dec 6th, 2020

So, in Blue Fang, Hive originally comes off as an antagonist, bullying Thorax, throwing Pharynx over a table (mind you, Hive is younger than Pharynx), picking fights with Blue, then finally in chapter 10, abandoning Blue in the Frozen North, resulting in him being captured by the Crystal Empire. So, as of now, Hive is the big baddy. Until, chapter 25, where Hive takes a magic blast to save Blue and Zen. That’s where his redemption ends, right?

Well, no. In fact, it goes much deeper.

First off, why do you think Hive left Blue in the Frozen North? Because he’s evil?

Nope. Actually, it’s quite the opposite. As said in chapter 10, the changelings had to escape via train, and they couldn’t risk going back for Blue. So, Hive held the Fangs back in an effort to get them and the other changelings back safely. Hive had good intentions, but he does regret smirking at Blue before slamming the cart door. Also, Blue does agree with Hive. He wouldn’t have minded staying behind, but at the time, Hive genuinely seemed to hate Blue.

Actually, Hive’s redemption started in Fang Gang Short #25 (which like chapter 25, is part of Hive’s redemption arc), which is this:

“You don’t really believe that Blue’s guilty, do you?”

Larax nodded. “Yes, I do. He probably gave up our information to those ponies and we just don’t know it.”

Hive scowled. “But you have no proof of it! He’s our ally!”

Larax snarled. “Not anymore he ain’t.”

Hivehunter growled. “You better keep your muppets on a short string, General,” he snarled.

Larax turned around. “Or else what Lieutenant?”

“Or else I’ll bucking hang you from it.”

Hive and Larax stared at each other, before Hive turned and left the room, leaving Larax to his thoughts.

Basically, some changelings thought Blue was a traitor due to how long he was in the Crystal Empire. Larax threw accusations, whilst Scarab and most of the other Devil Horns, as well as Hive, tried to defend Blue. Treason, depending on how bad, can result in exile or execution. So, Blue could’ve lost it all.

Thankfully, with all the support, Blue’s was proven not guilty.

Then Hive took a shot for Blue and Zen. So, why didn’t Hive let Blue take the shot, or just grab Zen.

Simple. He feels remorse. Hive hate his old self. He feels he was immature and selfish. So, he took a shot for Blue and Zen, sealing his redemption arc.

What did you think of Hive going from antagonist to protagonist?

Ooh. I like Hive's redemption arc. It shows the kind of bug he is

Yet another reason why Hivehunter is my favorite Blue Fang character. Ever.

Yeah. He is a bug with honor who has made mistakes, but out of everything, the biggest part of making mistakes, the part that shows whether you're worthy of change, is whether or not you feel remorse for what you've done. Which Hive does.

Heh, so I see

Well, that’s true

Yep. He’s first place.
