New voice actor of Cleveland Brown revealed · 11:29am Sep 28th, 2020
Mike Henry has stepped down from his role on June, stating "persons of color should play characters of color".
This month, it was announced that the new voice of Cleveland will be black actor and YouTuber, Arif Zahir (a.k.a. Azerrz).
As the saying goes, especially in this era of political correctness, "It's about damn time!".
Even though I don't watch Family Guy anymore, I'm happy for Azerrz. He has been doing Cleveland impressions since he started his YouTube channel in 2013 and for him to be chosen for the role is an amazing opportunity. Congrats and good luck, Azerrz!
Speaking of which, I assume that Alex Borstein will be replaced by an actress of Asian descent to provide the voice of Tricia Takanawa.
I never fully watched the show, but I'm on the fence about this issue, don't get me wrong I'm glad someone who loves the character, but at the same time I don't think any va should be pressured out of a whole due to political correctness.
Imo in animation it doesn't matter if the VA is white and the character is (insert color here)
or vice versa. As long as they don't get into sterotypes territory it should be fine
Live action is a completely different story.
Update: I might be a little hypothetical because I see little fault with the crowd from Dumbo, even if I read about it I don't see that much hurtfulness in the scenc and instead see many different personalities
