Nations

Now, we really haven't seen that many nations in MLP FiM apart from Equestria, the Griffon Kingdom, and such, and those that we did always didn't seem that developed or were vague in some way. So... I'm gonna do a little world-building for my story:

Equestria
Capitol: Canterlot
Main Species: Ponies
Currency: Equestrian Bits
Government: Triarchy (originally a Diarchy and Monarchy)

Among the largest and most powerful nations in the world, Equestria is regarded as peaceful and prosperous that was benevolently ruled by Princess Celestia, until the return of her sister, Princess Luna, and then marrying her old flame, Prince Sombra.

The Crystal Empire
Capitol: None, it's a city-state
Main Species: Crystal Ponies
Currency: Crystal Bits
Government: Royalty

The Crystal Empire was founded over a thousand years ago by the unicorn Sombra, who claimed a plot of land as his own, built his own city and offered refuge to many downtrodden ponies, particularly earth ponies who sought freedom from the elitist unicorn nobles and militaristic pegasi, and Sombra soon declared himself king of his own city-state. After he was corrutped by evil and imprisoned in the Frozen North, a curse caused the Empire to vanish for over a thousand years, until it returned and eventually came under the rule of Prince Shining Armor and Princess Cadance

The Shetland Isles

Main Species: Lunar Ponies

Government: Oligarchy

The Shetland Isles are an archipelago located a ways off the east Equestrian Coast. It was secretly founded by Princess Luna, who took in many foals who had been abandoned, orphaned, or were abused, and she took them to the isles to form a new colony and worked an eldritch magic that imbued her own nocturnal essence into these foals, transforming them into the first generation of the Lunar Ponies.

After Luna's fall, becoming Nightmare Moon and then her imprisonment in the moon itself, the Lunar Ponies kept to themselves, developing their own culture and society. Princess Celestia eventually found them and established amicable relations though the Lunar Ponies continued to isolate themselves, and formed a group of elite protectors called the Lunobi.

They are led by three leaders: The Elder, the Shadow, and the Healer, each of whom has two advisors, creating a council of sorts.

The Griffon Kingdom

Government: Monarchy (was a feudalism for a time)

Centuries ago, the Griffon Kingdom was the Griffon Empire, ruthless, power-hungry, and having little-to-no respect for other species. They formed a slaving market, kidnapping creatures from other nations and turning them into slaves. Eventually, this was discovered by Princess Celestia, who led a coalition of other nations to force the Griffon Empire to abolish their slave trade and freed thousands of slaves. The griffons had no choice due to being vastly outnumbered by Celestia's coalition.

They lost a great deal of wealth and respect from other nations, until a griffon explorer named Grover discovered what came to be called the Idol of Boreas. This relic filled the griffons with a newfound sense of pride and they worked to restore their nation as well as electing Grover to be their king. Generations later, at the coronation of the latest griffon king, Guto, a cyclops monster known as Arimaspi, broke into Griffonstone and stole the Idol of Boreas. When Guto and his griffon warriors pursued, Arimaspi fell into the Abysmal Abyss and perished. The Idol was considered lost with the monster.

The griffons lost their pride, greed returning to their culture, and their capitol fell into social decay, with corrupt griffon lords claiming power over various cities and townships. Eventually, this came to an end when the leader of the Sky Knights, Sir Godric, exposed his corrupt brother, Lord Gar, and Godric was made the new griffon king.

Bargos
Capitol: Sirius
Main Species: Dogs

Government: Meritocracy

Bargos is the Nation of Dogs. Unlike other nations, the Dogs of Bargos, especially in their capitol, Sirius, are a meritocracy and have no use for money. They live by a social hierarchy, with the majority of citizens being ranked Gamma, police, military, and public officials Beta, and their leaders Alpha, some of whom form a government body called the Council of Alphas, where all its members are Alphas and thus equals though some members command more respect and sway than others.

Criminals, deviants, troublemakers, or disgraced citizens are ranked Omega.

As they don't use money, the Dogs work for basic rights, amenities, benefits, food, and services. Otherwise, they barter and trade. Furthermore, the Dogs are actually among the most advanced nations in the world, developing impressive technology, such as automobiles, aircraft, communications, etc., and while they don't use magic for spells and potions, they utilize magic as a form of "clean energy" to fuel and power their tech.

A major organization in Bargos, is the PAW Patrol, which protects and serves the citizens of Bargos, having factions for Police Enforcement and Covert Operations, Fire Rescue and Medical Care, Air Rescue, Water Rescue, Recycling, Construction, Mountain and Cold Weather Rescue, Jungle Rescue and Archaeology, and even Superhero Rescue.

The Dogs disavow any relation to the Diamond Dogs, whom they consider shameful disgraces and are exiled outcasts.

Abyssinia
Capitol: Panthera
Main Species: Cats
Currency: ???
Government: Aristocracy/Dictatorship

The Cats of Abyssinia are isolationists and very paranoid. They are led by a government body composed of Aristocats who all rule their nation with a "gentle dictatorship", as in every citizen either conforms to their designated role in their society or they suffer consequences, with the worst punishment being exile with a magic seal that prevents the outcast from revealing anything about the Cats' society and culture. Those exiled from Abyssinia are branded OutCats.

They keep relations to other nations to a minimum and only the leading members of the Aristocats are allowed to even see creatures from other nations.

Yakyakistan

The Yaks of Yakyakistan have a long cultural history and are well-known for their pride and infamous for their temper.

Mt. Aris
Capitol: Hippogriffia
Main Species: Hippogriffs / Pseudo-Seaponies

Government: Monarchy

The Hippogriffs of Mt. Aris originated from griffons and ponies who sought a place where they could be themselves and with each other without judgement from their respective nations, as well as a safe place to raise their children, the first generation of hippogriffs. They happened upon Isla Delphinus, one of the Shetland Isles, and met a Seapony who sympathized with their plight.

The Seapony gave the group a magic pearl and directions to a faraway mountain where they could begin anew.

The girffons, ponies, and their hippogriff children found this mountain and named it Mt. Aris, making it their home. Overtime, more and more hippogriffs were born while their griffon and pony relatives eventually died out.

Recently however, the Hippogriffs have disappeared, their mountain abandoned, and no one knows where they are.

Aquastria
Capitol:
Main Species: Sea Ponies

Government: Monarchy

The Sea Ponies were once normal earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns during the times when their was stigma and paranoia between the pony tribes. Several earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns however chose to live together and form their own village, hoping to prove that despite their differences the three tribes could live together in harmony. Alas, they were all seen as traitors by their tribes and hunted by radicals and zealots.

These terrified ponies were driven to the east coast, having temporarily eluded their pursuers, when they happened upon the Giant Sea Horses, all beached and dying. Despite their best efforts, the ponies could not save the Sea Horses, who thanked them for their compassion and offered them a gift: A magic stone that transformed these ponies in to the first Sea Ponies.

They escaped their pursuers by diving into the sea, where they eventually formed their own kingdom, Aquastria. Alas, because of what had led them to this new life, the Sea Ponies chose never to associate with the surface-dwellers, as decreed by their first king. Generations later, a scandal caused the sea pony royalty to be overthrown and seemingly all members of the royal family died, leaving nopony able to claim the throne and their sacred treasure, the Trident of Ponydon. They approached an ocean mystic Sea Lion named Leo, who had a premonition: One day, the true and rightful heir would return but only if he ruled Aquastria until that day came, and Leo became Steward King of Aquastria.

The Dragon Lands
Capitol: Dracaerys

Ages ago, Dragons ran rampant and wild, killing, pillaging, burning anything in their paths. Until one dragon rose up and imposed his view of strength yet honor among his fellow dragons, teaching them a better way for them to prosper. He was made their first king and he began what seemed to be the promise of a better age... until he was challenged by another dragon for his crown. The first Dragon King was killed and defeated, allowing his challenger to assume the throne, but the new Dragon King was cruel, ravenous, and lazy, uncaring of his subjects, whom he forced to serve him, or of other creatures, disparaging his predecessor's "weakness" and declaration that the strong would rule the weak, meaning he meant for dragons to rule the world. As such, the dragons during his rule were lawless, destructive, and caused much bloodshed and harm.

One dragon however looked upon his kind with disgust and disappointment, realizing the dragons had lost their honor and so he challenged the dragon king for the throne, wielding a mysterious sword. He triumphed, decapitating his wretched predecessor and declaring himself the new king of dragons, Korangar. He used mysterious magic to make for his four most trusted allies a magical object, each bearing a magic Bloodstone, and that they would be the Dragon Lords. They would each gain their own territory for them to rule over as long as they enforced Dragon Law and swore fealty to their king, who would be ruler overall.

Saddle Arabia

The Changelands is the nation of the Changelings, formally recognized after Queen Chrysalis was removed from power and the throne assumed by Thorax.

Avalar is a mystical wild land home to various Sentient Creatures and split into several territories belonging to each species. It's one of the oldest nations in the world and is home to many ruins, artifacts, temples, and mysterious secrets.

Nepolar

Government: Chiefdom

Nepolar is an arctic and mountainous nation that is the home of the Yetis. They are an intelligent yet simple culture, living in villages that are headed by chiefs, but are open to visitors of other species and lands and doing trade with them. Though they are fierce defenders of their homeland and their people, and wield their own mysterious form of magic, such as magic crystal ice that doesn't melt or break like normal ice does.
