My Movie Review of Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (Reconstructed & Re-Analyzed)

This is a completely modified version of my review on “Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island”. Along with presenting a greater sense of reconstruction to correct grammatical errors and all that sort of thing, this also presents a combination of my thoughts on the film both when I initially reviewed and re-analyzed it later the same year.

My Episode Review on The Three Stooges: Some More of Samoa · 1:18am Sep 6th, 2020

Yo, what's up, Kemosabes?

This is your friendly film, TV show, and episode reporter here with another review.

Today, for my 39th episode analysis, I'm gonna give you guys my take of the Three Stooges's "Some More of Samoa".

Here's the rundown of it:

The Three Stooges are a group of tree surgeons that are considered the best in the business. When they're called upon by an old man to check on a rare species of tree he's keeping, he later assigns them to the their biggest mission yet: To recover a mate for the tree from the island of Rhum-Boogie.

However, getting the tree from the island will be no easy task, because Rhum-Boogie is home to a cannibalistic native tribe.

Will the Stooges find the tree and get back to America alive? Or not?

This Stooges short is another that came to my mind the most whenever I thought about what member of the trio's filmography that I wanted to review next. I was originally going to review something else entirely, but I found myself desiring to catch up with three of my favorite knuckleheads again, so...I decided to do just that.

The one thing I will admit is that there were a couple of continuity errors in the short that made themselves apparent, mainly around the time the Stooges themselves were trying to avoid the natives and make off with the tree.

The errors are these:

1. When Curly runs into the king’s hut he is still covered with the white powder draped on him from when a tribesman is preparing the Stooges for dinner, but when he goes into the hut and tangles with the Kabuki mask, the powder is gone. After he grabs the tree and runs off, the powder is back on. (Quoted from Wikipedia)

2. When the Stooges enter the raft before the short ends, you Curly's jungle costume resembles a jaguar instead of a tiger like in the rest of the short. (Quoted from IMDb)

Other than that, though...

THIS STOOGES SHORT IS SPECTACULAR!!!

The direction by Del Lord, and the story by Elwood Ullman and Harry Edwards, were all marvelously well-done. Similar to "No Census, No Feeling", the short's humor and feisty wit were elements that I found to have been clearly influenced by Edwards's involvement as co-writer, each joke being wonderfully executed and entertaining. Likewise, the short was quite possibly the most cartoony of the Three Stooges filmography, because there were many jokes that I've noted would often be done in a Looney Tunes or Tex Avery cartoon. The best part about them, though, was that they translated so well in the short and fit perfectly with the Stooges's style of comedy.

The performances of the cast and the characters were as brilliant as ever, if I may add. As always, the Stooges themselves were gut-bustlingly hysterical, making every moment they're featured funny and giving performances that were instantly worthy of an Oscar or Golden Globe. I especially enjoyed how the trio portrayed their characters in this short's off-the-wall approach.

In the end, "Some More of Samoa" isn't flawless because of the two errors I mentioned. But, it's one of the Stooges's liveliest and most hysterical of works.

So, I rate "Some More of Samoa" 4½ out of 5 stars.
