Greetings, folks. Here is my review of MLP: FIM season 9 episode 10 Going to Seed. To be fair with you guys, this episode could have been so much better, but at the same time it is not terrible. It is actually... mediocre, but it still has a bit fun once you consider the direction they took in this episode. Since this is neither a horrible one nor an intriguing episode , I’ll just be brief in this review and get it over with.

The episode starts with the Apple Family having breakfast early in the morning and getting ready for the type of harvest called the “Confluence”—the time where all the apples turn ripe at the same time. We also see poor Big Mac extremely tired from whatever hard work he had to do. Look at him—mane all messed up, eyes red, weakly moving around—poor guy. Anyway, Apple Bloom rushes in with all her strange equipment on as she attempts to hunt down a mythical creature called the “Great Seedling”. Huh... interesting name.

Goldie Delicious is back in this episode! Very nice to see her again. She is recruited by Granny Smith to assist her and the others with the rare harvest. Applejack dismisses the Great Seedling as a myth and legend, and tells her little sister she has outgrown the legend. But Apple Bloom is more determined to catch the Seedling so that a bountiful harvest can be provided by it. Taken by curiousity and doubt, she awaits to see what Apple Bloom would do. Goldie however delights in seeing her excited like that and amuses herself by looking at Applejack’s disbelief.

(Sighs) Okay, I’m gonna be serious when I say this: Would it be more appropriate if this episode would be featured in seasons 2 or 3? Because, honestly, this doesn’t feel like a season 9 episode at all. I really don’t see how it advances the season’s story arch (which is cluttered with horseshit anyway) or how it develops the characters in a conclusive or satisfying way. Applejack and Apple Bloom literally behave like the seasons 2 or 3 versions of themselves. This should not be in this final season. But that’s just my opinion.

Once again, Applejack and Apple Bloom make the stupidest “meme” faces that run rampant throughout this season. Did the animators foster a “ugly meme face” fetish? Ughh, those faces look so out of place and cringey. It’s really not funny. I’m dead serious.

(Groans) So as Applejack saw how distracted Apple Bloom was from the harvest work by looking out for the Seedling, she tells her there had to be work done and that the Seedling myth is just a tale told for younglings and to make harvesting more fun for them. The filly is still convinced that it is real and refuses to give up. So Applejack decides to make a deal with her that if she helps her finish the harvesting work, they can both have fun in finding the Seedling. So they agree.

That’s actually a great example of making compromise. It shows us as to how parents and guardians are to compromise with their children when it comes to fun and work. Great lesson to teach.

Later on, they actually see signs of the Great Seedling by beholding the apples being lined up in a particular shape in the field. This convinces Applejack that the Seedling is real. Thus, they team up to double their efforts in catching the creature through their traps. Big Mac still had to suffer through all that.

Later that night, the Apple sisters decided to do a stakeout to look for the Seedling and catch it while in action. A few hours later, they get tired and go to sleep. Suddenly, they heard noises and investigated them. It turns out the Seedling was hunting them and chases after them! Only for the Seedling to be revealed as... Big Mac?? Ughhh... well, that was lame. A great legend they saw with their eyes turned out to be someone they know? Hmm, I wonder if the writers would repeat that with someone else?

Finally, they all had their fun and laughs and commenced their next stage of fun and all that stuff, blah, blah, blah. A mediocre episode with a fun and applicable moral I see. Thus, I cast a seed on the ground. It sprouts and grows into a grade flower. It is C flower.

Peace.

That was a funny episode.

While this was a mediocre episode, at least it had a good moral about compromise like you said.

Now, I´m going to say some thoughts. It won´t be long because I´m tired from writing this week´s chapter and I need to go to bed.

Would it be more appropriate if this episode would be featured in seasons 2 or 3? Because, honestly, this doesn’t feel like a season 9 episode at all.

If I had been assigned with this season, I would have taken the chance to expand on Equestria´s history, (heck, I would have included a whole chapter about Gusty the Great!) or to solve some questions. For example WHO WERE SPIKE´S PARENTS?! They could have done that in Father knows best. Or, WHERE THE HECK IS SCORPAN?! Scorpan deserved an appearance in this season. He was mentioned few times so that the writers could tell us, yes, we haven´t forgotten about him. But come on! This season had lots of potential, it really did. But I feel like the writers haven´t known how to use it.

A great legend they saw with their eyes turned out to be someone they know? Hmm, I wonder if the writers would repeat that with someone else?

I don´t think this video could be more explanatory.

Aside from the lame reveal though..... am I the only one who thinks that The Great Seedling could of been female instead? ^^'

Father Knows Beasts hurt more with it turns out it was their last chance to tell us Spike's origins.
Its aggravating.

Wasn't really interested in this episode.
In fact something about the episode doesn't seem to "click" with the others in this season. Like it feels out of place.

Nope. That would have been very interesting.

Got that right, and you know how I am with Female Characters and their lovely designs being my preference for them. X3
