Seriously, though, fuck the Crossover tag. Don't even use lube. It is the worst tag. "Oh Noes I Woke up in Ponyville and I'm Pikachu" can take an uncomfortable bath in water that is slightly harder than most water utilities deliver.

I'm not generally a fan of Human and Anthro in my pn0y either, even though I'm a furry. Or Alternate Universe: I like binding myself to canon with superglue. A few times I've gone back and edited stories after new canon was revealed to make them more canon. What's wrong with canon, anyway? Ponies is awesome.

Crossovers can be fun to make, but difficult to pull of logically, if the characters come from different worlds. I'm addicted to Onomonopia's crossover stories, which are only with superheroes or other heroes from movies/tv shows/video games and manages to surprisingly well to have various different and logical ways for the worlds he uses for the crossover to happen.

Crossovers don't even have to be long. I've written a one-shot meeting with TMNT Donatello from the original Mirage Comics where he meets my favorite literary Character, Ian Malcolm and they have a discussion about chaos theory. There I didn't even need to cross worlds that much, just had to imply that Jurassic Park happened in the same world as the turtles and Ian had come to New York to do a guest speaking at a University.

What I am saying is basically, if you do want to have used all the tags, Crossovers do not have to be long, just that there at least must be some good logical way for the characters from different franchises to somehow meet.

Okay apparently I didn’t use every tag for genres. I’ve never used Crossover or Porn. In the case of the latter, I forgot it exists.

I don’t usually care for crossovers but there are some good ones. What you’re describing is Displaced, which I would never touch.

AU stuff is generally my favorite. The draw of fanfic for me is that it defies canon, since if I wanted canon I would just watch the show. If it weren’t for headcanon stories - personal or that of others - I would have dipped out of the fandom years ago. I write fanfic because it lets me play sandbox rather than wait if/until canon may or may not ever give me what I want to see.
