Raven's instead of Crows. · 5:55am Jun 27th, 2020
I have changed any reference of Crow to Raven. This is just more lore fun, Raven's were the pets of ODIN. Huginn and Muninn were their names, or in modern meaning Memory and Thought.
I originally wrote Crow as a joke on the term Crone, but as I wrote and finalized the lore in my brain I realized it was a mistake. I wanted to limit the sub-species of Griffons to five groups.
Types of Griffons.
Raven's who have better memories and are generally more intelligent. They are also more social among their own kind. Raven's tend to be potion makers, healers, or various scientists. Ravens also enjoy being creepy and mysterious. The Ravens also suffered the worst during the great quake and were extremely at risk for extinction. This contributes to their easier subculture of living together. It rare a Raven can't tell you their family tree.
Hawks are glider flyers. They can spend hours only needing to land to rest, though they don't fly like this often. Hawks can fly up higher and what they call Kite fly, where they just move among the wind currents. They can get high enough to catch winds moving in different directions.
Eagles have the best day time sight. Longer range and more focused. In the old times, an Eagle scout was praised for their abilities to see incoming foes. A Ravenblood saying is "If you see an Eagleblood, you know they been waiting for you."
Falcons are the speed flyers. We have seen them in the Equestrian Games competing with Pegasus. Given Pegasus can reach near-supersonic speeds (remember only Rainbow Dash can do the Rainboom). We can safely say a Falconblood Griffon can reach similar speeds, just like the Ponies they would need special flight suits and goggles (wonder bolt uniforms) to maintain such high speeds.
Owl blood Griffons are the terrors of the night. Having the best night vision and their flying is very nearly silent. These were the boogie men of Griffons till the Great Quake. Doom would have had trouble from them if his suit didn't have the advance scanners and thermal inferred vision. Another saying "If you see an Owl's shadow, you are already dead."
