"Superman: Man of Tomorrow" Trailer · 3:16pm Jun 24th, 2020

So, my thoughts: I've never really been a fan of Lobo, I think it might be a bit too soon to introduce Martian Manhunter, the belt/trunks color scheme is kinda odd, but other than that, I'm definitely interested.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Lobo either, but I do love Martian Manhunter. His interactions with Superman are always fun to watch.

I know I already commented on this trailer elsewhere, but I admit that I kinda like the idea of the Martian Manhunter in Superman's "Year One". Done right, he would make a good mentor figure to Clark.

The trick words there being "done right".

And while I'm not an uber-fan of Lobo (all depends on who's writing him) I guess that the intent is to have him as the story's "evil Superman" as opposed to a familiar knockoff like Bizarro. After all, Lobo's the last of his species too... if by his own hand.

Good points, especially on Lobo being a foil to Superman. I guess I just prefer my Superman origins when they're a bit more concise in terms of lore, like having it be mostly Superman and Luthor's first big conflict with maybe one other member of Supe's rogues gallery (I'd have it be Metallo in my take).

That's fair. I admit one of my all-time favorite Superman origin stories is "Secret Origin" by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank. Just a superb story.
But all the same, I don't mind that they seem to be trying something different here, because frankly sometimes you *have* to do something immediately distinct out the gate to just try and stand out a little.
Really, all that it comes down to for me is whether or not they do the idea justice.

I read that one a while back. Some of the artwork felt a bit off to me, but other than that I enjoyed it quite a bit. The Superman movie outline I keep working on on and off actually has some elements of it, namely General Lane being a xenophobe who turns to Lex Luthor to turn John Corben into Metallo.

Glad that you enjoyed it!

I suppose that's fair. Gary Frank is one of my personal favorite Superman artists, but still, not gonna pick a fight.

Cool. And in some ways I'm not surprised, I think there's a lot of stuff in the type of story here that'd make a good starting point for a Superman movie. I once kicked around my own (very, very loose) concept for a Superman movie that had Metallo be the supervillain of that one, tied to Lex Luthor and all.
