What I want from Gen 5 · 11:17pm Jun 1st, 2020
With Friendship Is Forever giving us one last trip down memory lane and Pony Life due to premiere this month, I thought now would be a good time to look to the future of MLP. Some time next year, we should see the premiere of MLP Generation 5, and to this day, we still have very little info on what the show will be like. So, while I wait, I would like to express what I would like to see in Gen 5.
1. A whole new cast of characters. Part of what worked so well about the Mane 6 is that they were all based off of ponies from past generations, but the writers were able to put their own spin on these characters. I want to see Gen 5 do the same. I don't want a rehash of the Mane 6. I want some new characters.
2. New concept. In the past, we've seen the ponies live in a fantasy world, or in the case of My Little Pony Tales, a modern setting. I want to see Gen 5 do something new. How about a sci-fi setting, or maybe there could be portals from their world to the human world, or maybe they live on a giant tree, or something new.
3. Make the show appealing to boys and girls. Part of what worked about MLP:FiM is that the show was able to stay true to its girl demographic, but also provides stories, art direction, and themes that are much more universally appealing. There's no reason why Gen 5 can't do the same.
4. Keep the CGI models faithful to the designs of MLP:FiM. If there is one thing I'm hoping will carry over from Gen 4 to Gen 5 is the character designs. Gen 5 is expected to be entirely CGI animated rather than Flash animated, and one thing I want to see is that the show retains the simple but versatile character models created by Lauren Faust and her team. CGI could encourage the artist to go overly detailed and stylized, but I feel that the ponies look better when they are fairly simple.
5. Give us some nice looking backgrounds. While the characters should be simple, I would like to see a little more stylization and detail into the background art.
I want to see the G5 version of Spike.
I won't mind seeing G5 Spike as a villain, just would like to see him be well portrayed.

I know Spike has appeared in other Generations, so I think it's fair to assume he might appear in Gen 5
