What's the Differences?

Hey readers, like my last post; I’m thinking of uploading them in case they get revoked if I break the rules or some hardcore fan reports it. I was thinking of Fanfiction but Regret12 said I should go to AO3 (Archive of our own). Can anyone tell me what is the difference between Fanfiction & AO3?

AO3 has a metric Fuck ton of tags but is usually pretty easy to get through and a lot of people think it's a cleaner and easier set up.

Fanfiction is well known and is usually pretty easy to use but can be glitchy as hell, and it deletes links (and even censors Private messages.) sometimes fanfic will power out for a bit. Longest I personally know it being down is 3 days.

AO3 has media support. Images, links, and videos are supported there. Besides, you can download stories there. AO3 is not as known as fanfiction but if you advise your followers in case something happens, you may continue with more liberty over there.

FFnet does not allow 'adult' content. Only up to 16+. "Fiction M can contain adult language, themes and suggestions. Detailed descriptions of physical interaction of sexual or violent nature is considered Fiction MA." Fiction MA is not allowed on FFnet. https://www.fanfiction.net/guidelines/

AO3

AO3 has a much better freedom of speech policy. In fact, I might even go so far as to call it perfect. I have not found anything that is prohibited. I think you can even link to explicit images a la derpybooru, but do your own research. You can always get a feel for the censorship level of a site by how they handle "underage stuff". AO3 just encourages you to tag it so people can decide if they want to read it.

This is for descriptions or depictions of sexual activity by characters under the age of eighteen (this doesn't include dating activity like kissing or vague references with no actual description/depiction). This generally applies to humans; if you are writing porn about space aliens who only live for a month or thousand year-old vampires with sixteen year-old bodies, please just use your best judgment. You are always free to specify characters' ages or to use "Choose Not to Use Archive Warnings".

AO3 will leave your work up even if you are somehow banned (you can take works down after being banned, just not add or edit).
AO3 allows links to other site and embeds for imgur, youtube, soundcloud, ect.
AO3 has a better search feature even though the tags can be a bit overwhelming. I love the 'exclude' search options.
AO3 lets you download works.
AO3 is the better option if you want it to be preserved for a long time. They take the "Archive" thing pretty seriously.

I like the terms of AO3 much better than FFnet. AO3 will host all 4 of your stories, FFnet will only host 3 of them.
AO3 is the better choice for a back up of your works. But you can always post 3 of them on FFnet as well to have two back ups.
