To be fair, I actually have a story planned out for how Canvas first got into tattooing (which would be set shortly after the Season 9 finale before the future timeline).
To answer your question though, despite how taboo tattoos are in many cultures (including the Gryphon Kingdom), Troy has no issue with his husband wearing his art. He knows that Canvas has everything in him to succeed as a tattoo artist, and is 100% supportive. Plus, he can't deny how nice Canvas looks all tatted up ;)

I'm a little surprised the Griffon Kingdom would consider tattoos taboo. I'm also surprised the Triplets didn't have them, especially Blade. I think it's a big step for Canvas. When we first met him the most different thing about him was his long hair. He is definitely growing and becoming more secure in expressing himself.
I got my first tattoo a few months ago: a Fluttershy!

Oh, that's awesome to hear! I have five tattoos myself (my most recent was done back in February before everything went under lockdown), so it's always great to hear from other Bronies who went under the needle.
Honestly, when it comes to what I envisioned in Brushed Away, the Clawston parents were strictly adamant against tattooing, and Jonas wasn't afraid to lay the fear in them when they were young about it. However, in the years that had passed, a lot of things changed for the family as a whole. So by the time Canvas became a full-fledged member of their family, and enough time had passed between everyone, that they'd be okay with him exploring such a new direction in his artistry.
Not to mention, Canvas would actually get his first tattoo as part of a friendship mission, so it's not like they could speak up against it. :P

Hmmm... Now I'm pondering which Triplet would be most likely to go under the needle. I wanna assume Blade due to his music career, but I could always be proven wrong.

Part of me wonders if Jonas might have an old military tat he has from back in his service days. It would definitely make sense for him.and Angela to see that as a rare exception due to the tattoo's meaning.

My grandfather had two. He was in the Navy before WWII. The one on his arm was an eagle. Him having tats is what made my grandmother acceptable to us getting them. I cannot wait to read your new story! I'm sure it will be great!
