IT IS TIME FOR BEST YAK.

    YAKS BEST AT STORIES.

EXCEPT FOR THESE AUTHORS WHO ARE NOT YAKS BUT ARE WRITING ABOUT YAKS. SO IS CLOSE ENOUGH.

    And we begin with crime

Time to move on to the birbs! Continuing the Young Six series, I'm turning this week towards Silverstream.

So hopping along, the next of the Young Six I'm gonna pull out is Smolder. (This time it's only semi-random: remember me mentioning semillon last week? Yeah, I'm having to actually sort this series to make sure not to feature them twice in a row.) So who am I gonna pull out first for Scoota-dragon?

Right. A month or so ago I mentioned that I was getting ready to launch some bigger thematic batches of stories, which is why I was trying to clear up my new authors folder. The bigger one of those was a focus series on the Student Six, which I'd planned to start as soon as a month came up with five Wednesdays.

…Yeah I was supposed to start it last week. Bother.

Followers vs. Account Age: A pointless data review: The Return

Earlier today, I was shooting the shit with Aklinstar about some of the statistics blogs I've done in the past and I noticed there was one I never did an update/follow-up on. I promptly dropped everything to do exactly that, which is because I'm deeply interested in stats and data and not at all because I'm frustrated with the way my

Seriously... what? And thank you. · 2:54pm Apr 21st, 2020

So I started my morning routines and during some work downtime checked FIMFiction. Found I had three new favorites for Worshiping At The Altar Of Knowledge, my old Imposing Sovereigns II entry. It didn't place in the contest, but I was (and still am) pretty happy with it.

I checked its stats back in February when FanOfMostEverything mocked up Magic: The Gathering cards for the entries and got a bit of a surprise. I was thrilled to find it had managed to make double-digits in the rating, which turned into a Discord discussion about how Wilson Scores work (the answer is darkest black magic). Out of idle curiosity I checked again today and..

I'm not even sure how to react to that.

The difference even in the top 200 rated fics is razor-thin (ChudoJogurt experimented and the difference of a single downvote is 27th to 134th), but I'm still absolutely blown away. I'm a relatively new author around here and only mid-tier - this perplexes me in how it even happened. But I also won't complain.

So - thank you all for your support, your time and your smiles. I'm glad to have entertained so far, and hope I continue to do so.

Yeah, it’s kind of incredible to watch when this sort of stuff happens. My own Trouble in Tiatarta became my first story to break the Top 1,000. It had a backslide after that but since then it’s been steadily climbing and is closing in now on the Top 500. Just a few more votes...

The grace of Twilight makes all things possible.

In all seriousness, congrats.

So what I’m hearing is that you’d like me to downvote your story so you aren’t feeling this intense pressure anymore? Just kidding, congratulations!

You deserve it! The story had a fun concept and you executed it wonderfully.

You joke, but half the reason I screenshotted that ranking is because any second now it's going to get vote-bombed. :rainbowwild:

Neat. Congratulations on the high rankings and learning black magic!

Nice work! Who knows, maybe it will climb even higher!

Just checked and it was ranked 4th. Congrats!!
