Smolder exhaled. Whether the smoke that followed came from biology or the dragon's refusal to contain the cigarette's erosion Ocellus couldn't tell. It blossomed, though, a smudge of grey against the bruised sky, and that was enough. But in that moment Ocellus was certain that whatever Smolder did would have been enough.

S'up. Been a while, hasn't it? But yeah, I've been writing some horsegriffonwords here and there. It's very rough, and I'm not sure if it'll go anywhere or see the light of day, but here's a small part of it that I liked and thought I'd share.

    Wrote Something Last Week

Not a story as such (or, at least, not anything approaching a complete story), but the foundation of something that could conceivably become a story with some time and effort.

    Saw the G5 Movie Today.

As is probably apparent by my lateness to the proceedings, I haven't really been motivated to catch it thus far, but was babysitting and my charge wanted to watch it.

    Time Flies

Smolder lay sprawled across the rug, limbs and claws entwined in dense yak hair. Her scales had become uneven shimmering planes, given their fleeting new life by the light of the fireplace. There, prancing tongues lived and died erratically, the only concession to the passing of time.

"Hey, you see the moon from there?"

Signal Boost: The Flashfic Group · 8:27am Apr 19th, 2020

Hi everyone!

I hope you've had/are having/will have a great weekend. It, uh, is the weekend, right? Everything is kinda all blurring into one. My son had a virtual Beavers/Cubs/Scouts campover this weekend, so that was an opportunity to get myself off the Couch of Rest, and do something a little more physically stimulating. :rainbowdetermined2:

Back to writing though... Well, in part. It was my birthday the other day, and as part of Birthday Presents Under Lockdown my wife bought me a lush new graphics tablet. So I suspect I'll also be getting back into the artistic side of things too. Mainly to see if I can do this other part of this picture book bargain and illustrate it too, but we'll see, eh?

Anyway, the main point of this blog is to give a signal boost to the Flashfic Group, which you should definitely check out if you enjoy writing little snippets of fiction or simply don't have the time to write anything of length. Once a month there's a contest to write a piece of pony fiction of no more than 150 words, based on a prompt chosen by the previous winner. It's a neat challenge, because size definitely doesn't equate to difficulty; you've got to be pretty economical to convey a story with such finite resources. But it's also a lot of fun, and the regular participants are great and supportive.

So why not have a go? The current contest ends Tuesday, so you've still got time to have a stab at it. I hope to see you there.

Also, Proximity updated for the final time yesterday (sniff), but I'm sure you're already aware of that. Thanks for making writing/publishing it such a damn pleasure, folks.

The judge, however... :raritywink:

Thank you very much for the signal boost! It's greatly appreciated; it put a smile on my face this morning.

Oh yeah, I forgot it was judged... :yay:

You're most certainly welcome, chum-o! You put the hard work in to the group, after all. In comparison, promoting it is a breeze!

Well, "judged", anyway...

Sir! You throw down a gauntlet at me, and I. Pick. It. Up.
