Real men don't cry: toxic masculinity or something deeper? · 6:37pm Apr 11th, 2020
"Real men don't cry", a phrase we've either heard in real life or a sit com, now it's true that it can be used to enforce toxic masculinity, but what if there is another mean? Now don't get me wrong, I in no way encourage toxic masculinity, but I do know the psyche is a strange mistress.
I know I probably won't be able to explain my take, but I'll try
What if "real men don't cry" is something father's tell their sons not to make them emotionless, but to teach them about action and not letting emotions control you? If you let an emotion take control, you can fail in your mission.
I know this is a game, but take this for example. *Spoilers for those playing*
We find out that Dhurke once saved Apollo and Nahyuta from the rapids when they were kids to which Nahyuta asked why he did, that he could've been killed. To which Dhurke said what father wouldn't risk his life for his children and as Apollo and Nahyuta are crying, Dhurke says while smiling, come on real men don't cry.
That smile and those words, are a facade. Dhurke is clearly crying on the inside, but trying to hold it in to comfort his sons, because he knows that if just for a second if he hesitated due to his emotions, he would have lost them.
That's how I kinda view "real men don't cry" I hope I explained myself well.
Toxic masculinity is indeed a problem even today, but just like everything there is another side of it and somethings that can be looked at from a different angle.
In my eyes "real men don't cry" can also be non toxic
Who ever came up with the “real men don’t cry” anyway?

I honestly don't know, but I do know it can be looked at in a different light.

Hm... as in?

Like I said, a facade. Or a way to say don't let emotions take over.
At least that's how I look at it.

Ah.
I still agree with the fact that toxic masculinity is a problem though.
I think you explained yourself well.
My father use to keep in his emotions around me and my brother so we would not have to worry
