    Happy New Year!

I will try to be more active this year than I was last year. I don't want to make a resolution and break it, but I'll at least try.

Was FimFiction the same, more busy, or less busy before the show ended?

Fimfiction's highest point was around 2013-2015 when a ton of blogs and stories would be uploaded and updated daily. But since then the activity on this site has been slowly decreasing, with fans leaving the fandom as Seasons 6 and 7 aired. There was a momentary peak in the activity on this site when the show ended with Season 9, with a bunch of stories being released around that period, but that might as well as have been a momentary thing.

(I'm referring the site statistics here btw, I wasn't even around on this site in 2013 :twilightsheepish:)

It's felt pretty steady for a while now.

I'm always in the middle of reading at least half a dozen stories here, but participating in blogs is what makes the site feel active for me. I expect the same is true for most people. My favorite bloggers were most active around 2012-2017, and that's when the site felt most active to me.

I mostly found those bloggers by reading stories from the front page. Every now and then, I would read a story, check out the author's blog posts, and decide to follow them. I haven't done that in a long time because the authors I follow now saturate my capacity to read fics. Incidentally, the ones that still post frequent stories/updates are the ones whose blogs I don't care much for. So on the whole, I spend a much smaller fraction of my time here actively participating than I used to in the past.

Even though I'm less active on the site, the site still feels like a hub for a ton of activity. I spend a decent chunk of my time on the Optimalverse Discord chat, which is an offshoot of a Fimfiction Group. Most of my horse friends are friends I made on this site, and they're still around on this site. The authors on this site still generate far, far more good stories than I could ever read. If it weren't for the fact that I'm completely saturated in how much content I can consume, I don't doubt that I could easily find more bloggers to follow that would bump my site activity up.

So by the numbers, the site was more active several years ago. In any practical sense, I don't think the difference matters. If you find new people to follow whose blogs you enjoy participating in, you can easily make the site feel very active.
