So as many of you read in last night’s blog post, I was pretty bummed about being quarantined on my birthday. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do to celebrate.
Until now.
Some of y’all have read my story Tubes so you guys know this already, but I was born about 3 months premature and spent a long time in the NICU. I decided for my birthday, I wanted to give back to those babies, and those moms who felt inadequate like my mom did because she couldn’t nurse me.
For my birthday I want to raise money for supplies to help me induce lactation so that I can pump milk and donate it to those mothers and babies in need. Considering the fact that we’re all in quarantine right now I imagine supply for that kind of thing might be getting low. I want to be a part of that solution. Just an ounce of breast milk can save the life of a baby in a NICU and I want to be a part of that.
I started a GoFundMe to reach that goal. $200.00 can get a pump, herbal supplements, storage bags, and of course a nursing bra with pads and some cocoa butter. I’ve been on this planet nearly 25 years and I have yet to feel like I have made a significant difference in the lives of other people. Sure, I write on here and my words can occasionally touch people, but I want to make a real impact in an area I’m passionate about.
Obviously quarantine has made times hard on everyone, and believe me, I get it. If you can’t donate or anything right now, that’s totally fine. Instead, do something nice for somebody else. Hold a door open, pay a compliment, leave a great comment on the story of a user who just started writing. This birthday for me is about making an impact, so I hope you guys could pay it forward even in a small way by doing something kind for somebody else.
When quarantine 2020 is over, let’s all give back to each other. We need it.
