God help me, I'm gonna do this thing · 3:11am Mar 30th, 2020
So, I’ve been planning this for more than 10 years. But because I’m obsessed with numbers, I felt like I needed a round number (round in this case, being even, multiple of 5, or 17). And finally, 2020 showed up and I’m like “there will never be a better number in my lifetime”, but I wasn’t going to be ready by Jan 1st. So decided I’d launch in March. But I was sick most of February. So I decided May. And then like three days ago I realized… no. Everyone is stuck at home looking for things to read. Now is the time.
The thing I’ve been planning is the 52 Project, inspired by Jonathan Coulton’s “Thing A Week” where for a year he produced a song a week. I’m going to be releasing a story a week for a year, and I’m starting on Friday, April 3.
I am scared shitless because once I start, if I miss a week, I fail. I don’t have 52 stories in the can, waiting to go; I’ve got to write most of these things, fast, or I’ll run out of backlog and I’ll fail. But if I don’t go now, there will never be a better time.
I’ll be posting directly to my writing journal, https://alarawriting.tumblr.com. Also posting to my writing livejournal (https://alara-works.livejournal.com), my Wordpress blog (https://alarajrogers.wordpress.com) and my Pillowfort (https://www.pillowfort.social/alarajrogers).
First up will be “The Chicken Story”. Magical realism, comedy. No chickens were harmed in the making of this story.
Gonna try to keep my output high enough that I can still write fanfic, though.
All right! It may seem hard to write a story a week, but I know you can do it! :) Hopefully, it doesn't affect the writing of a certain story (cough) (cough) (Elements Of Opposition)
Well that sounds cool, good luck.
Heck yeah, reach for the stars! If anyone's got this, it's you.
Trying to keep up with that and your fanfics does sound like a real challenge though. Do all your entries need to be original pieces? If not, I think you could totally get away with making some of your entries updates to fics. That way, you don't need to worry about updating fanfics and your weekly story.
Either way, this seems like a good way to spend your quarantine
Best of luck!!!
I don't care if you write MLP fanfiction, Star Wars fanfiction, original short stories, or a whole bestseller novel each week. I enjoy your writing style and the content you produce. I'll be there.
Oh my. This should be very fun indeed. Looking forward to it.
Heck yeah!
The condition of starting new stories instead of finishing old ones happens to us all, but never have I seen someone lean into it with such abandon.
Good luck you absolute madwoman you.

To be fair, writing original standalones of less than 10,000 words is not the same thing as starting multiple new long multi-chapter fanfics, but then, I just did that too, so I guess it applies either way. :-)
This sounds like the writing equivalent of running a marathon. If anyone has the balance of endurance and discipline to pull it off, it's you. If you get hit by inspiration one week and right 2 stories, keep one in the can for when you have a really bad week.
Rock and roll, you crazy diamond.
Good luck! It's quite an undertaking.
