Writer's Recap: What Was Said · 10:17pm Mar 24th, 2020
The original draft of this chapter was much more political in nature, but I decided to ditch that angle because it didn’t really serve any narrative purpose. I was getting sick of politics at the time (I still am), so it didn’t make sense to include something that would’ve made me not enjoy writing.
Originally, Rye Mash was single, and the photos Bon Bon sees reflected that. Otherwise though, not much about this has changed too much: It was always about the verbal sparring between Twilight and Bon Bon, and Twilight eventually losing her temper and letting slip what the core of her issue with changelings is (you can thank nightwalker for this, really). What did change was that the original draft saw more divergences from the topic in front of them (Lyra), which were removed to both tighten up the writing and keep more more in line with Bon Bon’s character and attitude of talking to Twilight for one specific reason, and not caring about anything not ancillary to that reason, and also to keep the narrative focused on Twilight.
Bon Bon is actually something of an interesting character for me here in terms of her motivations, which largely don’t come across here as much as they did in the original draft. I’m actually ok with that, because this story is really about Twilight. As we go through the rest of the chapters, you’ll get to see more of how her relationship with Bon Bon develops and changes.
