Y'know I'd seen the eyelashes and shiny eyelids (I realize now that must be eye shadow, huh) but always just assumed those were art style choices and not like, a female version of Sombra.
I am not the most observant, it seems.

Yep, it's eyeshadow. The simplified style might be the reason, but the vast majority of people that comment on it refer to it as female Sombra or Umbra, as do the derpi tags when I originally found it. So it's a bored/sassy lady Sombra disapprovingly eating pizza.

I never saw what all the fuss was about. I mean, peeps can use whatever avatar they want, sure, no argument. But why would I want the avatar I'm going to be seeing multiple times a day (or in reference to games, multiple hours at a stretch) to be some fugly guy when it can be a cute girl? I don't care if they're representing me, I'm not interested in looking at some barbarian dude's abs all day.
And since I can see everyone's addressing the matter, I always saw your Sombrero as female. It seemed pretty clear to me by the overall facial structure alone.
But then, what does it matter? What you have is something unique, something that instantly draws a lot of questions even outside of the male-female thing (has anybody yet asked what kind of pizza it even is?). This is good. It draws attention to it and you. Isn't that what an avatar is meant to do?

Yeah, it's after my time. The kids these days refer to it as when MtF begin to transition. Get it, when you crack an egg, there's a chick inside.
See... I never questioned or really paid that much attention to it aside from. "Huh... Guess he was having an off day?" Then again, you're talking to a guy who normally uses a Hetzer or a Tiger H1 as an avatar so... (Aside from the one I use on this site. This boy be Amuro's Symbol.)

Not sure if the original artist is still around, but hey, I'm sure if they aren't, you could try finding another with a similar style or one even more unique.
While I love your picture, your comfort should come first in this! If the picture if causing a weird incongruence, it's cool to change it. Plus, we are here to read your stories! And we'd read them whether your icon stays the same or not.

it is and that's why i've grown so attached to what started as validation for a little inside joke (finding a pic with Sombra eating pizza after writing about it at one point, and one where sombra is kind of sassy too). the pizza is some kind of meat lover's thing. or tomatoes. but that's kind of why i'm leaning heavily toward the idea of commissioning a new one now. eventually.

I’m not sure if it was a main story or something in Missing Pages (probably the Demon Racist shorts or the Lunbra anthology), but he did remark on that having to do with him being used to being called by male pronouns from the get-go.
