Filly Friends - Silence, Extended Author's Notes · 12:38am Mar 10th, 2020
Spoilers for chapter Silence of FIlly Friends, duh.
So, the last few chapters have been a little weird to write, and I imagine read. I was about halfway through Beat when I realized that I hadn't really been writing Octavia's story up to this point, but Vinyl's instead. It left me in this weird spot where I was basically writing the story from a side character's point of view. That meant that Octavia didn't really know what was going on, which meant I couldn't show you guys directly, but had to rely on other characters to do so.
If I'd have known that was going to happen, I probably would have set it up another way. I was worried when we published Beat that there was going to be a drop off, and there was. At the time of posting, Slam is the least viewed chapter of the entire story. Part of me wonders if it was an info dump type situation that turned everyone off, but I couldn't think of a better way to catch up Octavia, and the reader, on what was going on.
I felt that it did kind of lead into the final fight going the way it did. Octavia, I, and I imagined even the reader was kind of getting tired of not knowing what was actually going on. Quick and I had planned for something like this from the beginning, but we never put actual thought into how the plot points happen, only what order they happen in. (And even then, I ignore it sometimes if it makes sense)
So, that's kind of where we're at right now. I feel like some people were looking for a fluff fest, but I think that's boring TBH. I'd much rather have interesting things happen. We've got a couple more things planned, including some fluff to get everything going again. I've not made use of that romance tag, but I intend to now.
