My First Time Playing a Gibson Firebird - I've never been more confused by a guitar in my life · 2:44pm Feb 19th, 2020
I played a Firebird today. Not very well, mind you. I...I've never been more confused by a guitar than I have today.
The one I played was beautiful as anything you'd want in a guitar. It was cherry red, where you could see the wood grain, which made it so appealing you could consider it as erotic as your wife or girlfriend wearing lingerie on Valentine's Day. Then I played it, which is where my confusion came in.
The tone - it was pretty nice, loud and bright. The sound quality was nice for a guitar of its price tag, which I think was somewhere in the £1600 range. So, very worthy of gigging with and sexy to look at.
The playability - This is my main point in my short-lived playing time. The fretboard itself, while obviously made with quality materials, was pretty small, even for my hands. I have average-sized hands, but they look like they belong on a princess from a Nintendo game. I could very well be Princess Peach's long-lost sibling. The frets were kinda cramped for me, so I had trouble playing it. Unlike with my Mustang, it's got a higher fret count, where it's not the same in terms of string spacing, so it made it a little difficult to arrange my fingers in order to play a chord.
I can honestly say I've never been so confused by a guitar. I even mentioned to the person who let me play it that it confused me a lot because I couldn't play it like I normally could. I don't know - I would love to own one of them one day, provided I have enough to spend on one, and they have such a unique body shape and style that the weirdness of it, in my eyes, makes it wonderful.
Still, I can't get around what just happened.
