So, that Pony Life stop motion series airing on YouTube... I might have had a small hand in writing for it.
Yes. Seriously. I have helped write officially licensed pony content.
I have not been given any guidelines from the studio producing them or from Hasbro through them on what I'm allowed to discuss, and I'm not going to act as some official spokesperson. I'm sure you have questions, so here is a rundown of what I'm fairly sure is okay to tell you.
- I will not share details about upcoming content. I would imagine Hasbro is kinda antsy about leaks these days, and that aside, I respect client confidentiality as a professional, this is why I've kept my trap shut until now, I asked for the okay to say I had worked on this series and waited until I got it. Further, as a fan I respect not spoiling people on content that hasn't been officially released yet. So don't ask for spoilers, you are not getting any.
- I do not know if "Pony Life" is just these shorts or if it is going to be something more like a full spin-off show or whatever. If more than these shorts is being done, I am not part of that circle of communication one way or the other, or haven't been brought into the circle if it is happening (assuming it would even be the same studio doing it)
- I do know that there are several more of these shorts coming, I don't know exactly how many though. But I would guess there's a few months of content in the pipeline at the least, I haven't seen every single script so I can't say.
- While I won't share specifics, some of the upcoming material is very promising. There has been more than one script I was sent to look over and I replied "this is great as is". There is a lot of stuff coming up that will be very funny and very entertaining, and I say that objectively. As a brony I am enjoying the Pony Life shorts, and I am excited to see what the future holds for them and see some of what I've read put to animation. There's some very talented people writing for this series.
- I'm sure you're all wondering now "well Drake, this is awesome and congratulations, but when can we see one of the shorts you helped write?" You already have - I wrote the Valentine's Day one. You cannot imagine the zen euphoria I felt when I saw it posted, watched it myself, and began reading responses to it.
