Caught and Punished: Behind the Scenes/Huge announcement · 7:20pm Dec 28th, 2019
Hey guys, I know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me, but I’m still here. I’ve also been meaning to do this for a while now, so let’s get started.
As I’ve said in the description of the story, it was inspired by another story, Slave Starlight, by titanictime2. It was a great idea, though I don’t know if it was featured or not. Anyhow, what I’ll be doing here is going chapter by chapter and point out any differences between our stories.
Starting with the prologue, the first major change is that only the main 6 went into the cave and after Starlight, whereas everyone, villagers included, chased Starlight into the cave. I also tried to highlight Twilight’s mixed feelings about taking Starlight’s magic from her, while everypony else was still mad.
For the second chapter, I wanted to further highlight the main 6’s feelings toward Starlight, with the argument going on. I also wanted to get readers to feel somewhat bad for Starlight as Twilight does, while still being plenty angry. Also, another noteworthy difference between the two stories is that while Fluttershy had suggested Starlight stay with Sam, my OC for the story, Pinkie Pie had been the one to suggest Starlight stay with Anon, titanictime2’s human character. I also thought that having Sam have a magic-nulling field around him, like Anon did, was a bit far fetched.
Now I’ll talk about Sam a bit. A lot of people pointed out that Jake Taylor, my OG OC, was kinda dull, which I mostly disagree with, but still didn’t want people to think of Sam. That being said, even though he doesn’t have a last name, I wanted to give a good example of what Sam was like: immature at times, and not the sharpest tack on the wall.
Anyhow, the next notable difference is that more ponies gave Sam dirty looks due to having Starlight on a leash, while Anon was mostly ignored by other ponies. I also added the bit with Applejack in the barn to give a bit of development of Applejack’s feeling toward Starlight.
In the penultimate chapter of the story, Discord showing up is nothing new, but I had it be the first time eh and Sam had met, allowing me to spark a bit of a rivalry between the two. I also took the opportunity to have Starlight go through a bit of development through her misery, so her change in attitude would make a bit more sense. Sam being immature helped here, because it made sense for him to trust her right away, while Anon still had some reservations about Starlight.
The last thing to talk about is the last chapter, which is a chapter more than the other story got. The only thing to say about it is, the CD player was really just an excuse for me to share some songs that I thought would have gone great with the show, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” being a prime example.
Now all that’s left to do is share the big announcement.
I hate to say this, but I just can’t finish this story. I just bit off more than I could chew between this on Romantic Mischief. I’m really sorry to anyone who wanted to see the conclusion of this.
Luckily, there is good news. My good friend, ThePinkedWonder, has graciously agreed to finish the story for me. Everything that’s already published, cover art and description included will be the same, but anything new will be in the hands of ThePinkedWonder. I can’t thank him enough, so please, as a favor to me, read whatever he has to offer. This story is his now.
