I Need To Make Something Clear

I know I've been very absent lately but I still give advice to writers now and again as PMs. Lately there's been a problem which I need to remedy.

    My OCs are my own.
Characters such as Cascadius, Colonel Peregrine, Nancy, Blue Murder, Tybalt, Shadowplay, Tungsten and others.

    Putting My Webcomic Out There

Hi guys. Just to show you what I've been working on all this time.
Deviantart and Tumblr are a bit...let's say shaky right now in terms of putting your art out there and I've been looking for more specialised sites for my webcomic.
So I've finally got a Tapas page.

    27 Today And Some News

Hi everybody. Sorry I've been so distant lately.
Twenty-Seven years old today...and I'm told I still look seventeen. Don't ask me what my secret is, I'm just as puzzled, but not complaining.

So I've Heard About The Rings Of Power

So I'm actually quite looking forward to The Rings Of Power, the soon-to-be cinematic series based on Tolkien's Middle-Earth lore. The Lord of the Rings is probably my favourite film trilogy and, while it's debated to this day, I really enjoyed The Hobbit series.
And there's something I feel I need to say...

Okay, So, Read Up About What Happens In Rise Of Skywalker · 8:25pm Dec 19th, 2019

As a person, I don't mind spoilers but I won't give you any.

But overall, in regards to the final Star Wars film...it looks quite fun actually.

I get why people don't like the new Star Wars films but I do feel those people do take it way too far.
Hence why I left the Star Wars group this week until they've been given a chance to simmer down after the new film.
I can see it getting...mixed reviews. But not in the same way Last Jedi did.

Personally, I think the sequel trilogy are good films. Emphasis on 'films'. Just on their own.
Well-performed, improved script, great effects, love the return of costumed aliens and some interesting characters who I look forward to seeing developed in later material.
As 'Star Wars films', part of the existing franchise and its canon...well, I do think they could improve in quite a few places.
But I don't hate them. I don't even dislike them. Not even The Last Jedi.
And I've seen people less worked up about someone carpet-bombing their children than about The Last Jedi!
...
Well, not literally but you get the idea. I was just sick of that kind of atmosphere and I needed a break. I might return later but I'm still deciding.

Rise of Skywalker does seem a bit predictable and slightly rushed but that's kind of to be expected.
In between switching writers, massive contention between fans and detractors, three of Star Wars' longest acting veterans dying this past couple of years and plenty of side stuff to work on, Disney has definitely had a difficult time getting this made.
And all in all, a lot worse has come out of such troubled productions.
I do get the feeling that people still had fun making this and, for me, that counts for a lot.

I won't spoil anything but the film includes a lot of nods to the original with some...curious...twists and turns.
There are quite a number of mistakes and poor decisions of course. But I'm hard-pressed to find any Star Wars material that doesn't have those and the mistakes here...didn't really bother me.
Maybe I'm just more laid-back knowing the saga's wrapped up but when I see something that sounds silly or even downright stupid, I reacted more like 'Sure, Okay, If That's Your Thing'

Than 'Ooh Dear, You Quite Sure About This?'...

...like I had when TFA and TLJ made a balls-up.
Maybe, again, because it's over and done with now but regardless, I think it's worth watching just for the wacky hijinks because 'wacky' certainly does seem like the word for Rise of Skywalker and a word that's always summed up Star Wars.
It's rather on-the-nose, refuge in audacity stuff and Abrams has definitely taken a page from Shymalan in the school of 'What A Twist!'.

But even then, I can see it not being everyone's cup of tea. It does definitely look like they're jumping the shark and, while I can think of no better time for it, it's not ideal practice.
However, whether you like the film or not, the trilogy or not, good things for Star Wars have and will come out of this.
Now that the saga is wrapped up, Disney can take a moment to refocus, pool not only their resources but their research into the franchise and branch out with stuff like the spin-offs and the other projects coming up like The Mandalorian and the 2D Animated Trilogy Scenes that cater to a range of niche crowds rather than trying to follow trends and gather the biggest audience which, in todays world, can really tie a movie and its writers down.
Nothing Disney has done has ruined Star Wars for me and, try as I might, nothing convinces me they've failed to bring Star Wars to life.
It is very different to what I'm used to and there are quite a few things I think they should do differently or not at all. They've a long way to go.
But I can deal with that. And I do think they're improving. Disney Canon ticks enough boxes for me to at least tolerate it and be happy that it's come this far.
And I look forward to seeing what comes after this. Honestly.
Watch it if you like and I hope you enjoy it.
May The Force Be With Us All.

Wise words. I actually look forward to see the last movie when I get the time.

Plus, might help to work out the final part of Shadow of the empire

I 100% agree with all of this blog.

Eh. People bitch about movies all the time.

Nothing Disney has done has ruined Star Wars for me and, try as I might, nothing convinces me they've failed to bring Star Wars to life.

I'm edo what xcatly the same way. Disney has it's own cannon, it's own stories and such. They can keep them and do what they want. I still have my EU, legends, Fallen Order, and more. I've been around long enough to know that these things come and go, stories change and will be updated. So for me, it's like "Shrug" and move on.

Disney has been trying to destroy starwars they refused to follow the cannon plot they force all their liberal views in it and if you hate it your called a bigot or racist person. This ain't star wars my dad calls it straw rats cause Disney ruined star wars they could have folllwed the plot in the books after Return of the Jedi but they did not I read the books that came after star wars before Disney brouegt star wars from Luas flims and the disney vesion is crap. And that is my view or it weather you agree or not is up to you seious Half life video game has a better storyline matter a fact most video games have better story telling.

Alright. I left the group to avoid this kind of conversation but it seems there's no getting away from it. So, since we are on my blog, and you chose to comment on it, I will speak my mind.
I don't blame you if you don't like the new Star Wars. As I have already said, it's not for everyone. There's a lot of things I don't like about it.
But listen very carefully.

You can make your point about what Star Wars should and shouldn't be without accusing Disney of being a gang of clueless, paranoid, ultra-liberal, fan-hating, megalomaniacs.
That just makes you sound really insecure at best and outright unhinged at worst and there's a good reason why Disney won't listen to that kind of opinion.
It is fundamentally unprofessional and Disney will believe that even considering it will prove that they can be intimidated into submission.

It just disturbs me how hypocritical I have seen the so-called Fanbase get in the two years I've gotten involved in this kind of thing.
You incessantly demand Disney not make Star Wars political while bringing up politics whenever you can.
You're saying Lucas wasn't political? The guy who openly declared he modelled the Empire off the Third Reich, the Ewok style of warfare off that of the Viet Cong and Palpatine's ascension off the US Patriot Act and The Bush Administration?
Star Wars has always been political. It's just taken the fanbase this long to feel those politics affecting them.

And I just find it troubling how, whenever anyone working on Star Wars falls out of line, or is even hinted of such, the so-called fans will pounce and declare it proof of Disney's corruption and incompetence and how 'unworthy' they are of continuing Star Wars's legacy.
Yet whenever stuff like the cyberbullying of Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran, among other misdemeanours, is brought up, these same fans will either declare it the work of a few bad apples or outright suggest the whole thing was faked!
Do you even realise how that makes you sound?! Is it any wonder Disney aren't taking the fanbase seriously when they so consistently prove themselves to be less professional, less composed and less understanding than the writers could ever be?

I'm sorry. I'm sorry for going off on one but this is why I left the group.
This kind of reasoning is not good for you and it's not good for Star Wars.
It's not because of its political slant. It's its lack of any real wish to negotiate and reach a solution that so irritates me. You are causing your own problems, extending the rift between fanbase and creator and ensuring more and more that you will not be listened to. You should be trying to bring the two together and showing Disney that you aren't who they think you are.
Many of the books you praise also received divisive opinions from the fanbase when they first came out. Nothing has escaped controversy among the fanbase. It's just modern social movements and technology that has caused the new Star Wars to become such a talking point.
If you want to affect Disney's current works, learn to talk to them on their level and remain professional.
Because if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

And that's all I intend to say on the matter.

Wonderfully said. I saw The Rise of Skywalker and I personally quite enjoyed it, I think in large part mainly because I just went in with as few preconceptions as I possibly could, and resolved to just see if the movie could entertain me - and entertain it did. Yeah, its pacing is breakneck fast, and it's by no means perfect, but y'know what? I had fun with it. And ultimately, if the movie managed to entertain me, then in my own instance, it did its job.

Pretty much my overall thoughts on the movie and the sequel trilogy.

Well, that and the "fans" who were constantly bullying Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran on social media need their phones destroyed and be banned from any and all forms of social media. It's times like this I'm thankful I don't have a Twitter account.

I did have this to say in an earlier blog.

And, I wasn't there to say this at the time but I want to say it now.
To the scum, the absolute scum, who harassed The Last Jedi's actors and creators on social media...
Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill and Kelly Marie Tran are stronger, smarter, better fans and better people than you will ever be.

Like I said, this is why I'm glad I don't have a Twitter account.

And if I did and they started sending me hate posts because I like the Sequel Trilogy, I'd simply tell them this:

"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."
