~50,100 words · 7:58am Dec 16th, 2019
Yay, I made it to December! And just barely crossed my goal of 30,000 words. By 20,000. That’s right, I wrote just about 50,100 words. Way over my target goal. Now that it’s December 1st I can start working on editing finally get around to releasing and… wait, what? It’s the 15th? Where did those two weeks go?? Did I oversleep? What’s going on?!
All joking aside, I decided to take a day or two off to rest. Predictably those two days were… more than two days.
On the plus side, I got much farther along in The Ash of Fallen Stars than I thought I would. Or maybe I didn’t get as far as I hoped because I wrote more than I thought I could on those scenes I did? Because there were some sequences that went much farther than I had imagined. In particular the climax. It was supposed to be an shouted argument between a couple of characters, a short conversation about what to do, and then apologies and resolution. Throw in a shouting match, a hurricane force lightning storm and a revelation about some emotional issues, and now it’s a climax on par with the battle against Despair. (maybe even a batter one? You’ll have to read it to decide for yourself.)
So now the only thing left to do is some basic editing, make a final decision about the name for Shadow Break (Equinox, Aphelion, or Night Line?) and get a cover.
Damn the cover. I couldn’t find anyone to make one for free, no surprise and I wasn’t expecting it. But what blew my mind is that I couldn’t get anyone to do it for a commission! Even dollarsigns couldn’t convince someone to do it?? Well ok, I only asked once on the forum, and then a couple of people on DeviantArt (one way outside my price range and was busy, the other didn’t give a response.)
At least a friend of mine is giving it a shot. We’ll see how that goes.
At least I finally, finally, finally, have myself a release date. Late on the 20th, the evening before Luna Day on EQD. The story is told mostly from Luna’s POV, even if the story isn’t entirely about her. So there we go. Less than a week to go. I need to get all my minor editing out of the way (at least for the first few chapters) and we’ll have some kind of cover ready to go. (I may replace it with a better one if I need to.) Oh rats, I just realized I need to write up a description… I’m awful at those. …and it’s finals week. This bodes poorly.
I’ll be releasing one chapter a week, at least until I run out of chapters. (maybe two a week? Maybe three a week? Maybe once every time I see the story poof off the front page?) No less than once a week, at least. That gives me… 18 weeks to get more done? Plenty of time. At least I don’t have to worry about any more episodes of the show screwing with my continuity.
… seriously, where did the last two weeks go??
