    ...

I should have written this a long time ago. It's been embarrassing. I've been embarrassed. I've also felt like, hey, I'm washed-up and haven't written anything in ages, so why should folks care?

But I might as well be honest, because if not now, when?

    I lost my job.

I woke up and remembered our song

Well, it was never really our song
It was a song I heard once, from you, and we talked about it
And I'm not sure if you even remember that conversation now, or if you listen to the song
It's not like the music you play now at all

And maybe you moved on from that, too
    Wouldn't be the first time

    But I shouldn't begrudge you
    I keep telling myself that
    You're happier now, more successful

    More (unfinished) content

It's been a while. I could talk about things being busy, but things are always busy. I'm not going anywhere, barring very unfortunate circumstances, and I appreciate everyone who's still been following along with this account.

Things I'm Thankful for · 10:01pm Nov 28th, 2019

Happy turkey day, people who celebrate turkey day! And for people who don't, too, for the record. I guess you don't need to get in on the stuffing-full-of-stuffing to enjoy the general atmosphere of family togetherness (which, hopefully, is a good one for y'all.) For folks who aren't that closely knit, i hope the day's a day of free-floating good feelings; for the folks who are closely knit with your kin, then i hope you have an absolute Norman Rockwell of a time.

Hopefully my sentimentality doesn't come across as cloying or fake. It's genuine.

So whatall am I thinkful for? I figured I'd put a few things together - emphasis on "a few," since there's a whole heck of a lot that i'm honestly thankful for, but i figure that i might as well keep things tangentially relevant to you guys.

#1: I'm thankful for best horsebirb.

birb birb birb birb birb birb birb birb birb birb

Best horsebirb, after all, is an example of how the show can help me realize just how much i honestly still enjoy cute things. It's kind of easy for me to forget that fact, after all, and in my more cynical moods dismiss attempts at cuteness as being emotionally manipulative. But yanno what? Everything's emotionally manipulative to some degree, and the whole point of constructing the majority of creative works is to invoke some sort of response with the work's audience. And just because some things are fairly brash about their manipulation doesn't mean that they can't be appreciated nonetheless.

Best horsebirb is a cute character. She was designed to be cute. She succeeds. I love her. And I'd like to believe that there's nothing wrong with enjoying her, because enjoying her makes me happy. And I like being happy.

2. I'm thankful for Project: Horizons.

Bear with me on this one.

You would not believe how long it took me to find a picture of blackjack that wasn't unhappy to some degree. Or maybe you would.

To keep things simple, here's the long and short of this: I'm not giving thanks for this story as much as I'm giving thanks for what it represents to me. See, at the behest of a couple of cool dudes at Bronycon to read the story. I promised not only to do that, but to read Fallout: Equestria on top of it all, to get some background.

It's been a heck of a slog, not going to like. It's been a fun slog, though - overall, I've really been liking P:H. But when i'm specifically talking about thankfulness here, it's not specifically about the story itself.

It's about you guys. It's about the guys who convince me to try and read things that i wouldn't have read otherwise. The guys who point me in new directions and help me experience life a little more. Even if it's not a success, even if i don't wind up liking everything i read, it's still good of me to open my mind. And those "not successes" are in the minority: generally, when i read something new, i love it to death.

There's a lot of really good writing on here. I'm thankful for the people who help me open my eyes to that.

Speaking of...

3. I'm thankful for Fimfiction.

and for all the letters distributed to the folks who appreciate them. Yes, the wordplay is intentional.

I love this site. I love you guys. The fact that I came here is almost on accident, in a story full of mundane coincidences. But as a result of those mundane coincidences, I've encountered a place that's fundamentally changed my life.

The people here, the stories here - they've helped me get out more. Talk to people more. Make new friends. Read more stories. Write more stories. I'm not lying when I say that, had I not come here, I likely would have never written anything after college ever again. And when i talk about writing stuff in college, I mean research papers and essays, not creative writing.

This place and all the folks in it - you brought more color to my life. Made it brighter, bolder, more full of stuff. Ultimately, i'm pretty sure that i'd be a much less happy person if I had never come here. So, yes, to all of you reading this: you guys in general and all the things you've said and things you've made...

It's made my life better.

I hope that someday I'll be able to properly express how thankful I am for that.

What are you guys particularly thankful for? Feel free to tell me about it in the comments below. :)

Things I'm Thankful for...

PONIES!

Couldn't think of a way to incorporate this properly in the blog itself, but - if you have family traditions on today that you're particularly fond of, feel free to tell me about them! Or feel free to talk about the parts of your family that you like hanging out with today.

Well... We like to eat a lot.

I’m thankful for you and your stories and hope we can write one together soon!

Like you, I'm thankful for Fimfiction and for all of you here. For your inspiration, patience and understanding. And most of for the wonderful ponies and friendships they have given all of us.
