Romantic Meetings: Behind the Scenes! · 11:47pm Oct 29th, 2019
My friend, ThePinkedWonder does this thing where he posts a blog about each chapter/one-shot he posts, so I thought I’d do the same. Unlike ThePinkedWonder, however, today, I’m going to be focusing on my story, Romantic Meetings as a whole. That being said, this is gonna get pretty extensive, so you have been warned.
First, I’ll talk about my OC, Jake Taylor. I got the inspiration for this name from a movie called ‘To Save a Life’. That movie, good as it is, actually has nothing to do with my story. Still though, you should go watch it.
Anyhow, I mentioned that I got the inspiration to write the story from another story called Stars and Hearts. Sure enough, it’s in the ‘similar’ section of my story. It follows Anon as Starlight confesses her feelings toward him, and you can guess the rest. The biggest difference between that Anon and Jake Taylor is their background. Anon’s backstory is he showed up in Equestria one day, and that’s it. I know, Jake Taylor’s story is pretty much the same. However, a few comments in my story complained that it felt rushed or Jake had no personality. If you’re reading this, and you think that, compare my story with the original and tell me what you think then.
As for the story itself, I had a ton of fun writing it. If you don’t know, which you probably don’t, I wrote it as a way to produce some content, as I was getting a terrible case of writer’s block Oh the horror! with my PR stories. Little did I know that the story would actually be published.
There’s not much to say, editing-wise until about the sixth chapter. Originally, the scene between Twilight and Rarity wasn’t gonna happen, but I thought it’d be a good way to further show Twilight’s breakdown. Also, ThePinkedWonder pointed out that the original fight scene I had with Jake and the manticore would get a lot of flack. If you want to know, Jake just tackled it to the ground and choked it to death. I know, lame right? So, I changed it a little bit to show the Starlight was falling for Jake as well.
Another thing I should mention is that I actually wrote the first seven chapters within the span of four days. I tell you this because ThePinkedWonder warned me about shipping OC’s with canon characters. While his logic made sense, I went along with the story anyhow. If you can’t tell, this is basically a roast to ThePinkedWonder. Speaking of which, go read his stories; he’s got a cool OC too.
Another huge edit was chapter nine as a whole. It originally wasn’t going to happen. But I got to thinking and figured I should show that Twilight and Starlight had made up instead of just having them conveniently go along with Jake’s idea.
That’s about all the editing bits, but here are a few fun facts.
First, you know how I asked if it was weird that I was listening to Motley Crue while writing chapter seven? Well, it turns out that Motly Crue’s “Home Sweet Home” makes a perfect sound track to chapter one. Just listen to it while reading chapter one, you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Also, I can’t believe I didn’t notice before, but I actually published the story on Independence Day. If you already noticed this, that’s fine, but it was really just a coincidence to me
One last thing, I was listening to Def Leppard’s “Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)” while writing the conclusion to the story. It made it come really easy to me.
That’s all to share about this story. If you liked this, I’ll post another one of these for Caught and Punished next week. I won’t do any of these for my PR stories unless they get somehow really popular.
One last thing, shout-out to ThePinkedWonder.
Ah, I inspired you to do your own version of my director's cut I do. Nice.
Thanks for the shout out...and at this rate, you're going to need a "ThePinkedWonder roast count"

I...may or may not do a “EWW ThePinkedWonder” if I could find anything
