Common Ground- This episode had potentially a lot going against it. Don't care about buckball, Rainbow Dash is tied with Applejack at the bottom of the mane six (I like them, just less than the others), Quibble Pants was okay at best in his first appearance, and most of all Josh Haber is my least favorite of the major writers on the show.
Despite that it was pretty enjoyable; Quibble was far more likable in this position, the guest characters were adorable, and best of all Rainbow was very lovable here, not being written overly cocky or acting like a jerk the whole time! Can we get her written like this more often, please? 3 and a half out of 5.
She's All Yak- Another episode I was wary of, as Yona is my least favorite character in the whole show. Luckily this one went a long way in making her more sympathetic rather than annoying, and it was a good way to get the mane six all on the action. Song was cute and Yona singing her sad song was adorable. 3 out of 5.
Frenemies- Now this was an episode I wanted. Good showing of the villain trio, even if I'm still indifferent to Grogar. Bit disappointed Tirek is shown so comedically now, but it humanizes him. Loved the song, wish the baddies got them more often. Michael Vogel is probably my favorite of the writers still standing. (Wish we still had MA Larson in particular!) 4 out of 5.
Sweet and Smoky- The heck was this crap...? Okay, good points out of the way, Spike, Smolder, and Ember were fine here, and Fluttershy was at absolutely adorable levels. However the way they redeemed Garble felt so forced and far-fetched, at least with how it was executed. Remember, this is the dragon that tried to smash a bunch of phoenix eggs. Don't buy this contrived plot twist at all, and his generic gang have always sucked. A generous 2 out of 5.
Despite a real low point, season 9 is on an upswing for me, hope it continues!
Never liked Garble and his gang anyway. I'd rather hang out with dragons from Spyro Reignited and stay away from those obnoxious jerks.

Haven't played Spyro, but same. The show doesn't need lame stereotypes like those, and it's a bit late to do a 180 with them, especially if it risks undermining good characters.
