Honestly, this was unsatisfying. Seeing just Twilight as the new Celestia with not even a mention of Cadance and Shining Armor or even what the other Princesses are doing, and also seeing the other mane six old and clearly going to pass away and leave Twilight alone sometime soon is a very strange and empty way to portray the future.
Twilight’s apprentice shouldn’t have been a unicorn. Certain authors on this site really don’t need the fuel, and honestly given how much unicorns have been emphasized over the past few seasons it would have been nice to see an earth pony or pegasus to remind us of the equality between the tribes. Or even a non-pony.

5136003 I didn't say I want things to be permanent, it's that this is a time jump without any real closure or narrative cohesion. It's not an ending to MLP, it's just... ending. Everything familiar is gone. Why? Oh well.
At the end, Twilight takes her to Ponyville where Luster looks at everything as if for the first time. If she were Starlight's and Sunburst's daughter, she would have grown up in Ponyville and all this would have been familiar to her.
You know, I always imagined Twilight would keep the Friendship Castle as some sort of summer home. It seems weird that she’d move out entirely. How many Royals do you know who only have the one home? I guess they were trying to make Twilight a bit more down to earth?
it was an interesting 'ending' of a sorts; lots of open questions about the hows and whys things appeared as they did in the final song. I did manage to glean more then a dozen small bits of information about this 'future time' about where the characters are, who's alive and who's dead, who has what job and where, who has kids now and who is leading what city and where. I would have to gamble and say this episode is set 'somewhere' between 10 to 20 years down the road, so that means there's a whole lot of stuff that could have happened in between episode #25 and #26.
I'd like to think Luster Dawn is Starlight and Sunburst's daughter but there's no real evidence of it (yes, her cutie mark is similar to Sunburst's) so I'll let the fans decide with what fanfics they write. I also really like where Gallus ended up after his time at the School of Friendship.
Quite an interesting episode Appledash is now canon, and the new movie is somehow going to bind G4 and G5 together... maybe an AU or a continuation I bet. Thoughts?

And so, the show finally comes to an end. I've been watching this show since season one, and i really find it amazing that i have been watching it for nine years. It will be sad to know that there won't be a new episode I can watch during my weekends, and I actually teared up a bit near the end of this ending. Hopefully the team will continue with G5, take what they learned from G4 and make it even better. (I wish it is connected to G4, but having a whole new world made just for it works too)
I think a few fans will leave the site, most stories won't have as much attention thrown at them as they used to, but I hope it doesn't end, because this show was a phenomenon, a show for little girls that pulled in thousands of adults, and somehow went on for 200 plus episodes. Well, I guess it's time. Everything that was IN the finale, I loved! I thought it was a near-perfect send off. I know some people are going to be angry at the "Frenemies" fate and Twi's ending, but honestly, those were pretty much inevitable.
My only problem with the ending is that it only focused on the six. The show is over, and we have almost no closure on Cadance, Diamond Tiara, or Spike. To the crew's credit, Diamond is not their fault. Jim Miller said on Twitter that they wrote SEVERAL episodes for her that were all denied by Hasbro for unknown reasons. For the Crystal family, I wish we could have had a send off episode explaining Cadance's backstory and how she fits into all of this, plus Flurry Heart's future. Especially since the comics "Have no impact on the show" as Big Jim put it. She didn't even appear in the epilogue, It felt like a wasted opportunity.
As for Spike, despite the crew's insistence that he is a seventh main character, we still know very little about him. Zeppelin, Father Knows Beast, and EP 200 raised a lot of uncomfortable questions about his childhood. Where did Celestia get his egg? And, more importantly, Why did Twilight Velvet and Night Light refuse to treat him as part of the family? Especially since EP 200 showed that they helped raise him? Hell, one of the biggest parts of EP 200 was that Spike was upset about not being considered a third Sparkle child. Plus, his snub in the Zeppelin episode showed that the Sparkle Parents didn't even consider him a part of the family at all. They even consider CADENCE a bigger part of the family than the dragon they helped raise. I have to say, I'm a bit miffed that they didn't clarify or settle this. On the plus side, I LOVE that he is by Twilight's side as a co-ruler. Twilight and Spikes relationship has grown wonderfully over the last few seasons and I'm happy that at least ONE thing involving him turned out all right.
I suppose I'm just being picky about it. All in all, the entire finale was a joy and it gave a reassuring end to Twi's future and one of the best goddamn fantasy worlds EVER! FiMfiction will always be around, so we will always be able to run and play around it! Thank you, So long, and thanks for all the creatures!
While I haven't been an avid viewer of this show, especially recently, I'll never forget the joy of what I did watch brought to me, the characters especially. From what I understand the comics are supposed to bring a "Season 10" of sorts so I guess the story isn't over yet, but it does feel like the end of an era. I'll never forget you, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, thank you for all the memories.

I could easily see Shining and Sunburst being Luster's parents. That being said, I think there's a case to be made that she might be Sunset's kid (BTW, Sunset appeared in one of the character collages during the last song, so she's kinda sorta maybe canon now).
I'd think the student six or maybe some non ponies would be the "next gen" at least that's what the last couple seasons setup, all in all i was a little disapointed with the last episode of the entire G4
