Or, Not So Fast! (Part 3)

In which son_of_heaven176 gets some gaming in despite the game room being shut.

Thursday, August 1, 2019: The First Day of the Final BronyCon

I got up at around 8 in the morning to ready myself for the day. Around 10:30, I headed off to the Convention Center, more specifically, StableTop Games.

On the way, though, I ran across the Manliest Brony in the Fandom, DustyKatt. After getting his signature, I asked him for a picture. I was about to ask a third party to take the picture, but nope, he would take it himself. “Patented DustyKatt selfie,” he called it.

After getting the DustyKatt Selfie, I finally arrived at the game room…only to find that it was shut. A nearby staffer told me that it wouldn’t open until noon.

Of course, that made no sense to me. Why would they not open the door at the earliest possibility? Oh well! That only meant more exploring.

After finding a water fountain and refilling my water bottle, I did some more wandering and ran across SirBobTheMarvelous. Since the game room was shut and both of us had planned to attend our first panels at 12 noon, we decided to kill some time by playing Prance; I had brought my deck with me. A mother and daughter saw our game, and we offered to explain the rules to them.

Our four-player game was quite intense. The mother eventually got DQ’d; she lost all her cards, then she made a false slap, thus going out of the game entirely. Time and time again, I would lose my cards, only to slap back in later. However, my luck eventually ran out, as I eventually got DQ’d as well. SirBob and the daughter were really at it in the final minutes, but around 11:45 AM, we decided to stop so that we could head to our respective noon panels. However, from the stacks of cards that they had, it appeared that SirBob was closer to winning.

The 12 noon panel was “The Most Metal 1980s Show Ever Invented: My Little Pony Generation 1”. And the title didn’t disappoint. This panel was about the villains of MLP Gen 1, and believe me, they were really villainous. And I don’t mean “villainous for a girl’s show”, I mean villainous, full stop. Sure, everyone knows about Gen 1 Tirac, but we also had Porcina, who turned all of Dream Valley into glass; a penguin that wanted to use its ice powers to collapse the entire world into a new Ice Age; a dog that turned everything and everyone it touched into stone…
…and the less that is said about the Gen 1 Smooze, the better! That thing is literally the stuff of nightmares! All the worse that it had a catchy song attached to it! AND it was immune to the Rainbow of Light (the Gen 1 analogue to the rainbow blast from the Elements of Harmony in Gen 4)! Yikes!
So yeah, “metal” was indeed the correct word.

After that, I did more wandering. I ran across Keyframe, but wasn’t able to get her signature, as she needed to get to her booth in the Vendor Hall. I later ran across Thespio and Midnight Sonata and got their signatures. Thespio I recognized on sight, but memory serving, I guessed that the woman next to him was Midnight Sonata; I haven’t seen her IRL face much. Memory serving, while they were signing, Midnight said to Thespio that she’d need to stick by Thespio since no one would recognize her otherwise.

Afterwards, I headed to the finally-open StableTop Games, which is where our story will continue next time.
