Opinion: Equestria Girls Shouldn't End At Backstage Pass · 1:48am Aug 8th, 2019
So a few weeks ago, it came to light that while Backstage Pass wasn't planned as the last EqG special, that's the way the chips fell.
Production-wise, MLP is finished, and the cast and crew are off to other things.
So far, I've got high hopes for the end of Season 9. But there's a growing portion of my mind that is starting to worry, and it's largely due to the way they have decided to treat Equestria Girls.
Way back in 2013, we all thought EqG was going to be just some side series that really wasn't going to matter when it came to Friendship is Magic. But then it got good, and for the most part, stayed good.
Sometimes, leaving an ending open can be a good thing. I praised Digimon Tamers up and down for the extremely open-ended way it concluded.
But if someone else other than DHX isn't working on something, if Equestria Girls ends abruptly at Backstage Pass, it will be such a disastrous disservice to Sunset Shimmer.
She deserves a definitive ending as much as the Mane Six do.
If Hasbro is leaving the door open, writers will rush to fill in the gap. That's what fandoms are for! Open non-endings are fuel for us!
I'm a bit confused, that line made me think that you were going to draw a conclusion that the abrupt ending of EQG was a sign of things to some with MLP's finale.

I'll admit, I've got some ideas myself; but I wouldn't want to attempt something like that unless some serious motivation rushes in and I can do 20,000 words in a week.
Insanity like that comes for me less than once a year.

If they give that kind of treatment to EqG, I believe there's going to be a lot of loose ends that are left to personal conclusions and head canons.
That was a huge disservice. They never even addressed what would happen after Sunset and the Rainbooms inevitably graduated, something like that should've been the finale for EQG.

Also, there was talk that they had a script for a finale, but , for whatever reason, it never went into production.

Okay, but it doesn't seem like "loose ends" for parts of MLP translate into the same kind of "disastrous " effects you're describing for Sunset Shimmer.
I've been expecting loose ends for the main series, just because the main canon is literally overflowing with characters and unused concepts. This is something that I enjoy about the main setting over EQG, but it can also leave me feeling unsatified. For instance, one of the trailers for the finale has the Pillars doing battle with something off screen.
On one hoof, super glad the Pillars will get an appearance, but I worry that they’ll strain too much of the divided screen time. More likely we see their progress in the Everfree, and they get taken out by a new threat. Hopefully their defeat can seem cool or intimidating, and not make them look like dunces. Of course, this trailer is pulling audio and visual clips from more than just the finale, so maybe they'll be part of something else.
