Bronycon 2019! - Come See Our Panel! · 4:49pm Jul 30th, 2019

I'm at Bronycon this week! I'll be staying with my editor Reese and a friend of his. I'll post later about which events I'll be at if you care to chat, but I will be at the Writer's Dinner and I'll also be a panelist for writers called "Distant Worlds" with GaPJaxie, Wanderer D, and Pascoite at Star Hall, Sunday at 12:45 am until 1:45 am. It's a late one, but I really hope you'll join us. We'll be talking about how to take what you've learned from MLP fics and translating it to stories set elsewhere! (Longer description below.)

Here's our write-up:

Equestria is amazing for writers. Cutie marks, coat colors, and cute little pegasus wings serve as easy tools to create memorable characters, while the setting itself is a down-to-earth paradise where somehow anything can happen. Writing stories for other worlds can seem difficult in comparison, even daunting, but the same tricks that make Equestria great can be found in other worlds too.

In this panel, four popular fanfic writers give their advice on how to write for worlds other than Equestria. What are good ways to make characters visually stand out without pastel coats? How do authors make their elves or goblins feel as distinctive as bat ponies and diamond dogs? How do they make pagan deities and evil overlords who feel as important as Celestia and Nightmare Moon?

The show may be ending, but with a few tips and tricks, the magic of Equestria can still empower your fanfiction!

Alas, I've got a scheduling conflict there (at a 0045 timeslot, somehow, yes) and am expecting to have to make a difficult choice. I hope the panel goes well either way, though! It does sound interesting, and certainly I'd like to go.
Sigh.
It is the way of conventions, but seriously, at 0045?
(Oh, and sorry you have that timeslot for it in general, since I'm guessing that might give a lot of people scheduling conflicts between it and sleep.)

True, not the best time, but we'll try to make it worth their while. Plus it comes right after another cool panel on fanfiction, so we hope some folks will come for that.
