Reflections on a 2 year hiatus

Hello folks! I woke up feeling nostalgic today, and decided to check FimFiction after quitting it cold turkey 2 years ago. It surprises me that the community still keeps going on strong, and it made me reflect on this long chapter of my life, which closed abruptly (and maybe rashly) 2 years ago. And honestly, I regret just dropping off the face of the earth, and never getting a real sense of

Bronycon: A Tragicomedy in 5 acts — The Land

Conventions of all kinds are interesting places to be, but there was something special in the air for this Bronycon. It could be due to the larger crowds than those in your typical Pony Con, or the reduced space which brought the attendees together, maybe even how much of other fandoms seem to seep into pony nowadays[1]. But mostly I am pinning that to the sense of finality given to the whole

Bronycon: A Tragicomedy in 5 Acts — Introduction

Lo! Behold the Bronycon 2019, most majestic of all Pony conventions, last of its kind and most crowded of its name. Witness as it fights for space with the Rubik’s Cube convention [1]. Be amazed at the crowds of people attending, and all the panels they didn’t get to attend. And don’t mourn for it being gone, but celebrate the fact it happened at all.

    Life updates, plus Bronycon!

Man, it is shocking how long it has been since I posted anything in this account. My last post was in April 2016, and it is hard to believe that this much time has passed. It also makes a lot of sense, since May 2016 marked the beginning of 3 very interesting years in my life.

Daring Do is totally George Lucas, guys!

Chris posited on his blog an interesting bit of headcanon about Stranger Than Fanfiction: That the first three Daring Do books felt different because they were ghostwritten by someone that was brought on to smarten up the plot – who should be Twilight's Mom, in order to revive an old bit of

Man, it is shocking how long it has been since I posted anything in this account. My last post was in April 2016, and it is hard to believe that this much time has passed. It also makes a lot of sense, since May 2016 marked the beginning of 3 very interesting years in my life.

  • I moved from Brazil to Vancouver, Canada! I just love this town, and honestly, every since moving here I feel like I have been playing life in easy mode.
  • I started a new job that I love, where I have been able to start unleashing my full potential. It is hard work, but very rewarding as well.
  • Picked up Singing as a hobby, big time. It has been great exploring my creative impulses in this way, and it led me to make many new friends as well, and live some cool experiences.
  • All in all, I guess I grew a lot as an individual in this period.

But despite never posting anything here, I'm still very much active in the fandom. I have been one of the RCL curators for these past 3 years, so I'm still reading plenty of fanfic. It is just that I mostly focus my efforts on reading potential inductees (AKA, stuff that seems good from authors we haven't interviewed yet), and I feel too self conscious about posting reviews for those. Besides that, I do some pre-reading here and there, and tend to troll the comment sections otherwise.

And also Bronycon! This is going to be my third time attending a pony convention (I also went to Bronycon 2016, and Everfree NW 2018), and it should be a blast. Most of the fun of these things comes from getting to put faces no names. Really hoping to stalk meet some of you Fimfiction folk for the first time, and talk again with others I saw in previous cons. I'll even get to participate in a panel this time around, which will be a novel experience — come check out "Ponyfic: There Can Be Only One" on Saturday, 11:15 AM, at the Moon Hall, and see us pontificate from up on high on what good fic actually looks high.

Anyway, I will try to be more active here from now on. Writing a blog for the first time in a while feels really good.

PS: Since I'm always out of the loop in these things, is there anything cool going on Wednesday night?

I will see you there, man!

Picked up Singing as a hobby, big time.

Would you be interested in singing with the SoCal Ponytones, the Brony choir I (attempt to) run?

Hey, think we talked a while in Q&S in 2016! Hope to catch you again this year!

Hey, that seems like a fun idea! How do you go about organizing it remotely?

5096940
Mostly Facebook messenger, but also Twitter, Discord, texting, whatever it takes to reach, corral, and inform people.

Hype to meet you again! I had no idea you'd moved to north america.

Wednesday is usually kinda chaotic; if you know people who have something planned, you can join them, if not, get some rest and prep for the con.
