Thoughts on the Season 3 premier: · 6:48am Nov 11th, 2012
Just to get it out of the way early.
Now then, on to the actual review. It was a decent premier. It got the job done, did some serious foreshadowing about something going down with Twilight in the future, and had some pretty cool/funny moments, but it still felt like the weakest of the two-part episodes. A lot of it may have to do with King Sombra getting little screen time and just being a generic "take over the empire" kind of villain. The Changeling Queen was kind of like that as well, but at least she had good screen time, a cool look, defeated Celestia in a duel, had an army backing her up, and had some good singing to top it all off. Sombra was just a dude that likes stairs. Speaking of singing, the songs seemed to be a bit lacking this time around, too. I know it's hard to compete with the songs from the Season 2 finale, but they felt meh to me. Overall, I kind of just left hoping that the rest of the season has some epicness planned to make up for it. Next weeks Pinkie Pie episode and the upcoming Scootaloo episode both sound promising. Maybe the finale will be awesome as well, we'll see. Perhaps the future episodes will give us some seriously cool things to talk about, so that we aren't stuck talking about some slime commercial from Nick.
Anyway, I'm almost done with my college stuff, so writing should be back to getting progress this week. Until next time, peace out.
Ok, just one more:
Seriously, there's already an Ask Pony Tumblur and brony music album for this. You bronies are crazy.
Don't forget Tixie returning. I do wonder though if there wold be a two part season finale.
493313 I'm still undecided on how to feel about the Trixie episode. Half of me thinks it has some good potential to make a really cool episode, but the other half feels like the episode could just end up being fan service to bring Trixie in for another episode and not getting anything productive done. And since I've never given a flying feather about Trixie, that leaves me with a very meh feeling. Hopefully I'm proven wrong and the episode ends up being cool. We'll see. I'm just glad Scootaloo is finally getting an episode. As the best CMC member, it pleases me that she's getting some spotlight this season.
Also, I heard Discord has an appearance for an episode this season. Possible finale episode involving him? Perhaps he teams up with the Queen since she only got the Team Rocket treatment instead of straight up dying like King Sombrero did.

Well when Sombra's horn was sliced off it was used to create the obsidian so it would stand to reason that he might not be dead after getting hit full blast by the power of the crystal heart, incapacitated maybe but not dead. You could use that for a possible storyline in a future fic, as for Trixie she became a fan favorite because she's Twilight's foil so to speak so it would make sense that they decided to bring her back for a bit of revenge.
493705 Well, in a way, there's a way to bring back pretty much every villain thus far. Luna could somehow revert back into Nightmare Moon if need be (though it isn't likely), Discord could be freed from stone again, and Chrysalis just needed to not die when she hit the ground from blasting off Team Rocket style. King Samba de Amigo, however, had a pretty graphic scene of being destroyed and it even showed his horn flying away as he got blasted. That horn flying away could also be interpreted as a sign that he might have a chance of coming back as the smoke monster from Lost once again, but I think it was to show that he was done for good. It'd kind of be a refreshing twist to have a villain that actually got straight up destroyed for once. I'm actually more interested in his door of nightmares and never ending stairs than I am with him. The door was great. The whole scene with it. It brought me back to thinking about the ponies having nightmares and gave me some fuel to want to work on Don't Go To Sleep. I will thank King Salsa for that, but I still think the dude is dead at the time being.
As for Trixie, I can see why other fans like her and her presence on Equestria Daily makes her a more well known fan favorite to the people who work on the show, but I just can't get too hyped for it since I don't like Trixie myself. I also don't want them to go too overboard with trying to please bronies as it could take away some of the charm that the show has, and nobody wants that. If we were getting a fan service episode, I think I'd choose doing something with Time Turner and put in some serious Doctor Who references (I pick Doctor Whooves because Derpy having an episode is never going to happen after the whole storm of craziness her speaking role brought). I'm just going to have to wait and see how the Trixie episode pans out. Maybe Flim and Flam will have a cameo. Since they are best one episode villains that come to Ponyville, that would be awesome.
At the moment I'm most hyped for Scootaloo. Maybe she'll get multiple episodes like Apple Bloom did last season. I'm also hoping for a full on Applejack episode that gives her a good song and makes her look good instead of the stubborn Applejack from Applebuck Season and Last Roundup.

Please don't mention that mistake of an episode, the only redeeming quality of it was Pinkie going "I'm going to kick your ass." mode on AJ. They redid Ditzy's voice but the damage was already done by the time it came out, an episode focused on her would redeem them a bit in that regard. And Scoots deserves an episode since Sweetie Belle and Applebloom had ones by themselves.
If you're talking fanservice episode then I would like ones on Vinyl, Octavia and Lyra. Let's face it they deserve an episode.
495881 I'd say an episode with DJ PON-3 is actually pretty likely. Lyra and Bon Bon are a bit of a stretch since Bon Bon is there for the always a different voice gag and Lyra has all her background craziness. Vinyl, however, could end up making a pretty cool episode, as would Time Turner. I'd put Vinyl #2 on my list of fanservice list for potential episodes. I'm sure they could squeeze in some Octavia in such an episode as well.

Well there is a rumor that there will be an musical number with Rarity and Octavia this season as well as a voice for said mare.
I thought the Crystal Fair song was really catchy. Looking forward to some remixes of that. But yeah, the "prepared" song was really meh.
