A JD Review - Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) · 6:47pm Jul 2nd, 2019

The sequel to Homecoming and the end of the Infinity Saga in the MCU is here.

Another solid film from Marvel Studios.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is an interesting film to say the least. Whereas Endgame should rightfully be the end of the Infinity Saga, Spider-Man swoops in and steals yo girl. According to the boss himself, Far From Home will mark the end of this phase and this saga and work to build what is to come. Let's check it out!

NON-SPOILER REVIEW

Far From Home picks up shortly after the events of Endgame, and it doesn't hide the fact that people were erased and were suddenly brought back. Apparently it's called the Blip now, where billions worldwide were suddenly returned to the exact place of their death. I really did appreciate this information, as it answers a lot of our questions we've had on the Snap and the return of these people. The rest of the film tackles Peter, Ned, Michelle, and the rest of Peter's classmates on a vacation to Europe. After the insane adventure Peter had, he definitely deserves it.

Trouble comes in the form of Nick Fury seeking out Peter's talents alongside the odd yet helpful Mysterio, both wanting to stop the beasts known as the Elementals from destroying the world. New suits, new gadgets, and new tricks later lead Peter, Mysterio, and Fury on a fun-filled, epic adventure only the likes of Spider-Man could defeat!

This movie was fun. The only gripes I had were that the comedy does seem a bit forced and cringey from time to time. There were, like, three legitimate laugh out loud moments, but it was just overcrowded with awkward humor that Jon Watts and his writers just seem to love. Also, I can proudly say that Michelle was a little bit more enjoyable in this movie as compared to Homecoming. A little bit, but not much.

Overall, I pretty good Marvel film and movie in general. 8/10! What were your thoughts?

SPOILER REVIEW

The way this film covers the fallout of Endgame was respectable. Tony, Natasha, Steve, and Vision all got proper goodbyes right off the bat and the film constantly shows us that the world is mourning Tony Stark's death. Peter, especially, doesn't believe he can rise up to Iron Man's status... only he doesn't need to. The world doesn't need the next Iron Man, they just need the one and only Spider-Man to be his own hero. I can respect that.

There were some legit twists and turns I didn't see coming in this film. Obviously, we all knew Mysterio was going to be a villain, and the Elementals were just tricks and illusions he used to make himself look like a superhero. However, the use of the drones was clever for a modern take on Mysterio. Pretty much every scene Mysterio is in he steals. Especially the illusion scene Peter is trapped in. Very creative and very Mysterio-esque.

The after credits scenes are the best, the first being J.K. Simmons reprising his role as J. Jonah Jameson to show that Mysterio revealed Spider-Man's identity to the world. Well, now everyone knows who Spider-Man is. This could either be really good or really bad. The second credits scene is of Nick Fury and Maria Hill revealed to be Skrulls, Talos masquerading as Fury for who knows how long. We see that the real Fury is out in space with the Skrulls Captain Marvel saved. What this means for the future of the MCU... we can only wait. August can't get here soon enough.

An 8/10! A fun, quirky film overall! What were your thoughts?

I'm very torn on whether Talos or Triple J was the bigger surprise of this film. But other than that, it was a fun ride that sets up so many other stories. I'd give it a 7.5/10. I like Talos but that twist kinda felt out of place here.

Speaking of Natasha, word on the street is that a 'Black Widow' movie is set for development at some point. Now I don't know if it's a prequel that takes place shortly before her sacrifice at 'Endgame' or unless what we don't expect is that the movie follows revealing that she 'did' come back (Though that might be tricky to put together). But I think it would probably work better as a prequel since being the most familiar Black Widow we know, Natasha Romanoff's backstory has always been a mystery and it kind of jumps between certain origins. At some point it was inevitable we're bound to learn how she came to be the person we'd know later on and a 'Black Widow' movie has been up in the air for quite some time. But the big question remains:

What do YOU think?

5083451 Yeah, it's interesting what the Skrulls are gonna do now that Fury is with them.

5083643 I really hope she doesn't come back to life from Endgame. That would just ruin her sacrifice. The film HAS to be a prequel.

5083684
That is a strong possibility. Worse case scenario: She could be 'cloned' by a strand of hair that was probably left, thereby using her DNA because she's probably the only one who may be familiar about a certain case that requires her intellect (Even if the Clone herself may lack certain memories of 'Endgame').

But in case it IS a prequel, we could at least see how Black Widow got her start before she embraced the hero aspect of her character.

I love this movie. It’s a classic Spider-Man story with some MCU twists: Peter struggling to have a normal vacation while the weight of his superhero responsibilities takes a toll on him, especially now that he has to step up in his own way.

The deception, illusion sequence and final battle was everything I ever wanted out of a movie with Mysterio as the focus. It’s even better in that he’s the movie villain to leave the most impact for Spidey besides Green Goblin. Never thought something like that would ever happen on the big screen.

The action was also improved massively, with Peter stepping up and kicking ass with pure skill and his ability to adapt. It was so fun to watch.

The final swinging scene might be my favorite swinging scene in any Spider-Man movie. The mix of simple swinging, agility and even the web pits made it feel fresh.

And now that Jameson is here and the Earth Elemental from the start of the movie might as well be the MCU Sandman, Marvel’s now open to bringing back more familiar Spider-Man things since Homecoming really needed to do things differently. I’m still holding out hope Avengers Tower gets reconstructed as Oscorp since that hasn’t been revealed yet and it’s only been a factor in Spidey’s movies.

5084224 Norman Osborn would make a huge impact if he was introduced.

I wouldn’t worry about the fallout Peter’s identity leaking out.

Other heroes that fought beside him in the final battle against Thanos could speak on his behalf, including the Pepper, CEO of Stark Industries.

Heck, there’s also bringing up records on Beck when he used to work for Tony. While this clear Peter for the attack and Beck’s murder, the question of whether or not his identity goes back to being secret is up in the air.

For the next movie, they could bring in the Sinister 6.

-Vulture
-Scorpion
-Prowler
-Mysterio (Don’t buy that he’s dead)
-Shocker
-Sandman

Their benefactor, Norman Osborn.

i love this movie. Easily in my top 3 Spider-Man movies with Into the Spiderverse and Spider-Man 2.

I liked it better than Homecoming. While Homecoming was great I didn’t like how bumbling he was in the movie. I get he’s a bit new at it, but it went a little too far at points. Someone who was able to take on the Winter Soldier and Falcon by himself should be able to take on the shocker no problem near the end of the movie. Here this Spider-Man definitely knew what he was doing and was able to hold his own very well.

I liked that he had to struggle between being a super hero and him wanting to do his own thing. That’s a very Spider-Man conflict to have and I think they did it better here than in Homecoming.

Mysterio has been one of my favorite villain and he is a great villain here. He might be my favorite live action villain Spider-Man villain. He’s dangerous, he’s smart, and he’s such an asshole that you want to punch him in the face. What they do with his illusions are amazing. He gets a little close to being too much like Scarecrow, but I don’t think they cross it. I don’t think he’s dead, but what he accomplished in the ending makes him the one villain besides Thanos and Zemo to actually accomplish his goal. One of the best MCU villains.

Great movie easily a 9/8 out of 10.

I just saw the movie and it was epic. I never trusted Mysterio, but thought if he did turn out to be good it could be believable if done right. That reveal of his true self though was well done. I loved Happy helping Peter with his troubles and telling him how much Tony believed in him.

I want to know what is next for Spider-Man. Jameson is bashing him like usual now (epic cameo) but now the world knows who he really is! Where do you go from there?!

Okay, who actually bought Mysterio's act? Anyone?
*Literally nobody raises their hands *
Yeah me neither.

We had Norman Osborn. I think they should stay the course of giving all the villains a chance, despite the reboots.

They dropped the name Dimitri, so we have setup for the Chameleon.

Scorpion could be done well. He was given his powers specifically to destroy Spider-man, and for a good chunk of his history it was acknowledged that he would be the the winner in a fair fight. I remember a story that was probably a reprint even when I first read it, where the scorpion escaped from jail, and the whole book was building tension and almost lovecraftian dread because Jameson knew the Scorpion was coming to kill him.

Finally watched (a bit late I know) it and it was a blast! Really loved it and I'd predict that Talos has been Fury probably after Tony's funeral. It just seems like something Nick wouldn't miss and let someone else be him there.
But that's just my thinking.
