(Yes, even though I'm actually very swamped with stuff I'm still writing in the few hours I'm not. However, this isn't about that.)
The last BC isn't very far away, and I never gave any definite reason or answer to the question of whether or not I'd be going. Obviously, this was largely in part because of how even I wasn't sure entirely if I could go. The possibility of any transportation to Maryland wasn't looking all that good for that date. Even though none of my stories would be able to make any bookstore/print deadlines or be sold at the con, I'd gladly give a toe (and probably a little one, because they're fucking stupid) to get some of those awesome books. Super-awesome-epic custom books of some of my favorite stories on the site. (With pretty pictures, to boot!)
Yes, all things considered I'd probably be willing to give more than a toe, but that's a conversation one or two sentences short from the wide world black market organ pricing talk. So, I'll be dropping that there.
Okay, I was also looking forward to seeing (and maybe even talking to) some of y'all! Sure there may be other, more local conventions and I'd be able to make a few when I'm not in the transitional period I'm in right now. But this is *the* convention. And the one with a bookstore.
I'd super duper love to scoop up some of those books and hug 'em. (Also you could've said hi to me to or something. That'd be cool too. If I had been able to make it and one of you lucky fucks managed to accurately spot me without me having to explain I'm the sad weirdo who wrote THAT story you could hear me talk about all sorts of great things like why I want an iced coffee every other five minutes and telling you an uncomfortable amount of facts about Ted Bundy while showing off pictures of my cat.)
I'd really love to do all these things, but now I have a non-negotiable reason why I can't go: I start testosterone on August 1st.
Even if everything else was absolutely perfect, I wouldn't be able to go because of this. (Especially with how injection sites can be sore/swell in the first few days after T-shots, and those are usually in the leg; I wouldn't even be able to walk around at the con if I could manage to make an appearance. Baltimore is also a pretty dangerous city for this to be an issue in, and I'm not looking forward to being called a white devil and other things like I was the last time I was there.) I'm in absolutely no position to reschedule, and even if I could, another three month minimum wait *at the least* would be devastating.
There will be no Ice Star at BC 2019. Sorry y'all, this meetup just isn't possible. I'm just crossing my fingers that enough books will be leftover from the store that I can order some. I hate to have to have such a this/that choice for something like this, but it's how things will have to be.
It's after midnight rn, so I don't think I have anything left to say (that could be edited to coherence, at least). But now y'all know ahead of time, and I actually remembered to write this blog out.
Story updates come when I can manage them, and I hope that everyone who can make bronycon this year has a great time!
