Banjo, King Among Bears · 11:51pm Jun 11th, 2019

I don't post much nonpony, but this... This is special to me.

The fact that these pillars of my childhood have returned home. The fantastically crafted moveset. The bits of other Banjo-Kazooie level themes slipped in the Spiral Mountain rearrangement.

Joker and the Hero just got "Oh, that's neat" reactions from me since I've never played a Persona or Dragon Quest game. (Yes, yes, shock and horror. Most everything implies some gaps.) But this? This brought literal tears to my eyes. I won't make any judgements about who won E3, but I am incredibly pleased right now.

More than Mario or Pokémon, Banjo Kazooie was my childhood. I might have to break down and buy a switch.

Me and my sister were stoked when we saw the trailer.

No... no, it can't be... They... they didn't, this is just a joke, right? An incredibly cruel, taunting joke. There's no way something this... this wonderful could have...

It's true. They're home. After years of distance and neglect... After hopes ever raised and dashed...After going through something no character should go through... They're finally home.

I've long since given up hope of getting another true Banjo-Kazooie game - even if it were attempted, Rare's changed too much. And that's fine - Yooka-Laylee and A Hat in Time have done much to salve that wound. But this... this...?

This blows my attempt at creating the character and trailer completely out of the water and, at this moment, no fact could make me happier.

Rest assured, FoME, you not the only one who is really, really/ happy right now.

This is all I know about Banjo Kazooie, but as a Sonic fan I can understand your pain.

Also, is he using his friend as a hammer?

Indeed. You actually had to unlock that move in the sequel. To do so, you had to go to the starting area with some more advanced moves, track down a living cartridge of the previous game, smack a literal Easter egg out of it (in the sense that it was a hidden secret in that earlier game and also an egg,) and then go to a giant chicken coop and hatch said egg.

This should give you some idea of what these games were like.

They're games Pinkie Pie made?

Well, the bosses of that game include a nearsighted welding torch, a pair of dragons who attack you because you're not the pizza delivery guy, and a coal elemental who is the conductor of the very train he fuels.

So yes.

My babys are are coming home.

Long live the king and queen of 3D platformers.

Welcome back, guys.

Banjo got the "oh, that's neat" reaction from me, but I can understand the nostalgia for other people. I finally bought the fighter DLC for the Dragon Quest. DQ 8 was one of the playstation 2 games I spent the most time on (FFX was another).

well yes banjo and kazooie is a classic that would WAITDIDSOMEONESAYTHEREWASADRAGONQUESTDLCWHYHASNOONETOLDMETHIS?!?!?!?!?!

Indeed there is.

Personally, I'm just amused that we finally got characters designed by Akira Toriyama in Smash. Maybe the would-be Goku mains will quiet down now. :raritywink:

How is A Hat in Time? I was thinking of getting it, but I haven't finished Yooka-Laylee yet.

Sorry, back to your standard issue EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I've never played Persona games, so my reaction to that wasn't even a "huh neat", just "Aha. dunno who that is." And the dragon quest guys... damn, when first guy showed his face I had a hard time guessing who he was even supposed to be. I vaguely remember the music from somewhere. One of the Final Fantasy spinoffs with the odd character designs? The design looks vaguely DBZ-ish... I know there were some franchises that had the same character designers working on them... What's the name... "Blue Dragon" or something? I had like a demo for that on my 360 at some point.

Oh wait, that blue slime is from Dragon Quest, ah okay, it's Dragon Quest. :derpytongue2:

But Banjo-Kazooie?

HELL YES. :pinkiecrazy:

Apparently there were rumors around the subject, but I wasn't aware of them outside of one guy vaguely sarcastically suggesting Banjo-Kazooie for Smash Bros. Also wasn't watching the Nintendo Direct itself, just the dump of game trailers IGN and GameSpot were compiling in their youtube-playlists.

...So of course, the way I found out was through a Youtube-popup notification on my phone I just so happened to be looking at at that moment. "BANJO KAZOOIE IN SMASH OMG / Guy reacts to Nintendo Direct".

Went to watch the trailer. Still a total "Solid Snake suddenly pops out from a card board box and joins Smash Brothers Brawl" moment. :rainbowlaugh: :pinkiegasp::pinkiehappy:

Completely insane and totally out of left field. What's next? Master Chief and a Halo-stage? :trollestia:
...wait, could that actually happen? :rainbowderp:

Holy crud, it could. Probably not in this Smash Bros (I think Nintendo fulfilled their quota), but the next one? :derpyderp1:

I also love how Nintendo, after announcing Banjo-Kazooie for Smash went "We hope you had a good time with this year's Direct. ...Oh, by the way, one more thing: BREATH OF THE WILD 2." Like, immediately afterwards. :rainbowlaugh:

It's a lot of fun - very much in the spirit of its inspirations. It's well designed, imaginative and very enjoyable to play - if you enjoy this style of games, I'd definitely recommend it. Personally, I preferred Yooka-Laylee, but only by a very, very tiny amount and I'm happy that they're both around.

You know, with both of them and the Crash and Spyro remasters, plus this wonderful tribute, I think it's a pretty damn good time to be a fan of old school 3d platformers. As such, I hope you won't mind if I join you: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
