Oh, forgot to mention I was hanging out with lions again last year. · 4:15am May 19th, 2019
Such friendly big kitties.
I can tell I've been too busy when it completely slips my mind to mention something like this. :P
Former research biologist who now spends his time dissecting electronics and rolling around in poison ivy.

I've heard that as long as they aren't hungry, they are amicable.
Oh, and one must not show fear - lest one becomes their next meal.
PS: How does their fur feel like?

It's somewhat coarse... I'd say similar to horse hair. Their muscles are incredibly firm. You can feel how strong they are.
I got to feed two of them when I went two years ago. The same guy I'm petting there very gently took a piece of meat right out of my hand.
Their temperament has much to do with both training and genetics. Some lions are just born much gentler than others, which is seen in house cats as well.
Our old cat who died early this year was exceedingly gentle and intelligent, for instance; vastly different from any other cat we've had.

I can honestly say that it is a fascinating thing to think about.
You're quite the lucky fellow, to be able to approach such majestic creatures and leave unscathed and enriched by the experience.
That looks like a very furry beastie.
I'm surprised, though, I'd never heard of a zoo letting people do that.
Closest thing I've experienced was at the Atlanta Aquarium, where you could swim with their whale sharks in their new huge tank.
