It is done..... MythrilMoth is archived. · 1:20am May 15th, 2019
I am finished with archiving everything from MythrilMoth. I went over five different web presences and archived content by him in the WaybackMachine. It was an insane amount of work and I'm just tired now, in total, it took 47 hours and 12 minutes to archive it all. But it was necessary, because Zef implied a possibility that his accounts could get deleted, either by his wish or by demand from his family.
But now, whatever happens to his accounts, his pony work is safe forever. And this archiving effort was especially necessary for his homepage. He paid for it monthly so Dreamhost will delete it once no new money comes in anymore. And some of his MLP: FiM fics, like "Discord's Discount Disguises", have beautifully designed subpages on his homepage that actually no one ever put into the WaybackMachine! I am glad that I could save them.
I also downloaded two videos from his YouTube account that he made for his ponified Star Wars fic "Mare Wars", alongside their descriptions.
Archiving from Deviantart was tricky, because unlike other sites, the links of a Deviantart account don't interconnect in the WaybackMachine, which means each uploaded art piece has to be linked separately. And the individual gallery pages as well.
The only thing by him that is still missing are many of the chapters of "Pony Fails". That's a challenge where even I broke, the amount of them is humongous and intimidating. I will still archive them, but only a few each day. It's too taxing to do all of them in one go. It's also pointless to archive it for the chapters themselves, because they are tagged as "Mature" and stories like this fail to get displayed in the WaybackMachine because the age confirmation button does not work there. I archive them merely for the comments readers left.
That's a general problem with mature fics by him. I could only archive their comments from here, but they are all up on FIMFetch and I archived the mirrored uploads there, as well, just in case. Also, I found two fics by him via FIMFetch that I didn't even know existed because he deleted them from here before I noticed them, and one more fic that I witnessed getting deleted. I archived those as well, because FIMFetch is the only place where they can be found anymore.
I'm sorry that this archiving effort means that there was no new chapter for "Letters to Cozy Glow" again last Friday and that I also won't be able to deliver a new chapter for "Dreamwalker Dash" this week. But MythrilMoth is pretty much a legend among ponyfic writers, so I couldn't risk that his creations disappear. Such legendary pony content must be preserved.
I have added the links to everything I archived below. Bookmark them in case anything disappears. And make especially sure to bookmark the archive of his homepage. That one will definitely disappear, possibly next month already. I'll go and crash now.
MythrilMoth Archive
Everything is interconnected here, just browse through his account like you do it here. Contains: All ponyfics (minus mature ones, but their comments are visible), blog entries; entries about MLP: FiM (including the bulk of his OOCSSTs and episode/comic reviews), entries related to writing, entries related to FIMFiction.net and its users, his own writing updates, all entries related to his pony writing career and a couple of entries about his personal life, his follower list, his following list, his library front page, his bookshelf "Recommended by MythrilMoth", his "About" page and his userpage.
Bonus links to the descriptions of two deleted stories, with the original comments: When The Blood Moons Number Four and Titty Barn.
- FIMFetch
Princess Sparkle Royal Library (Backup)
When The Blood Moons Number Four (Backup)
That's in the same way interconnected as his FIMFiction.net account. Contains: All his ponyfics and their individual chapter sub-pages, if available, the Authors Notes page, the Links page, the About page, the Donate page and a lot of the news archive.
Additional news archive links, in reverse-chronological order (archived by others, not by me):

Contains: His Deviantart profile, all comment pages on the profile and under uploads, all MLP: FiM uploads, the individual gallery pages, the gallery subfolders and one journal entry. Unfortunately, there is not everything interconnected here. The individual gallery pages and the individual uploads need to be linked one by one.

- Patreon
Archiving his Patreon account was next to impossible. It's marked as 18+ and, like mature stories here on FIMFiction.net, a confirmation button needs to get clicked if you access the page without an account and the WaybackMachine can't handle this. I archived his Patreon front page on archive.is instead but the result is underwhelming.
All I could do was making screenshots of his Patreon page:
- YouTube
I did not archive his YouTube channel, because he only has two pony videos on there. And I haven't figured out yet how YouTube videos can be archived in the WaybackMachine. But I downloaded the videos and copied their descriptions and upload dates. I'm not reuploading them right now, but will do so if they disappear. I link the two videos below:
And that's all. Make sure to bookmark these links.
You earned your rest, as you did Great Work. And he/she will be remembered.
Frankly, i find Knowing what happened is better than those who just drop offline Forever Without A word.
Although it's already been done, if you wish to add his pre-Fimfic work, you can find it here: https://www.mail-archive.com/search?l=ffml%40chez-vrolet.net&q=Eternal+lost+lurker&submit.x=0&submit.y=0
This is absolutely incredible, you've done something truly special here and I'm sure he'd want to make it up to you somehow, were he still with us. Again, incredible work, your time and effort was more than worth it.
5058947 No, he actually wouldn't.
And again, I have to repeat that at no point was it even implied that his work would be erased, so stop maligning others or putting words in their mouth. But what's done is done.

It's these sentences that made me decide to do this undertaking. Zef was (is) his best friend but here he expressed uncertainty about what would happen to MythrilMoth's stories and his accounts, regardless. That MythrilMoth's best friend is unsure about what could happen to his accounts does imply to a certain extent that there is a chance that his content could become deleted, even though Zef might not be aware of that implication. So I decided to play it safe instead of sorry.
The reality is, as I already said, that likely nothing will happen to any of his content, safe for everything on his homepage. Least, not because of his recent death and not in the near future. What could be taken away from his blog entries and the way he interacted with people here is that it always meant a lot to him to entertain people with his stories. If anything, he would be glad knowing that his work will never become lost now. He wouldn't want his creations to be gone. Despite Zef's uncertainty, the chance that there is a last will to delete his content is less than 1%.
But this is merely a measure of security. Even if nothing happens to his content here, and it likely won't, it is now archived and preserved for whatever could come at any point in the future. With a legend like MythrilMoth, it's not wrong to make sure his work lives on in any case.
Though, Wanderer D is right about it that MythrilMoth wouldn't want to make it up to me. The two of us didn't interact much, but the truth is, he didn't like me and I didn't like him. We didn't like each other, as persons. MythrilMoth would be happy knowing that his works are archived, he probably wouldn't be so happy about knowing that it's ME who did it.
But no one else was doing it, certain content of his has been archived previously but only very little in comparison to his entire work, and I was not going to let a conflict and fight between us (much less one that happened five years ago) or any hard feelings we had/have for each other prevent his work and his contributions to the fandom from getting preserved for the future by waiting until someone else would eventually (or maybe never) go and do it.
It would have been petty and stupid, taking the risk that his work disappears one day, because of personal feelings and differences. And despite what I felt about him and thought of him as a person, I still respected and even admired his writing talent, so I can at least honor this by making sure his content will remain for future generations.
I'm intrigued by your relentless drive. What is it that keeps the spark of productivity glow so bright in you. What makes you so motivated? Is it the principles or an obsession?

Still, thank you to everyone who appreciates the effort. This wasn't easy to do, people think it's easy peasy to archive something in the WaybackMachine, just paste the URL, maybe bookmark it if necessary, and it's done. A matter of a few seconds. And that's usually true, if you only archive a few things or only three our four things at a time. But go and try archiving the entire works of one single author/creator who wrote more than hundred stories, several thousand blog entries and a number of art pieces and you will see that the reality looks differently.
It was a taxing task and I lost more than a couple nerves (and, likely, braincells, least that's how it feels) in that process.
I'm not complaining about it too much since I WANTED to do this and I should have known what I'm getting myself into with that amount of work (and would have still done it if I had expected it would be that hard). And I don't regret it one bit, even though I feel worn down and hungry and tired still. But it was an exhausting task regardless, so I'm grateful for it that some appreciate what I did there.

Thats what i like about the fandom. Helping each other, no matter what. And as you did here and before, Keeping those who Left alive in our memories

It's a passion. Easy to confuse with an obsession, but far from being the same.
Other than that, I don't know why that glow is still there. In the last two years, a couple things happened that should have killed this glow, yet it's still there and as bright as ever.
I don't even know myself anymore.

I try to come up with a meaningful response to answer this, but I don't have any. I'm pretty dried up right now. So I just say you're right. It's a positive aspect of the brony fandom for sure.

INdeed and one to be proud of. Now rest, you have earned it
5058959 I do believe though that Moth would have been touched by having his work backed. The one issue I have with your backup specifically is how it was handled in spite of, rather than respecting the request for time. But, you don't have to justify it or argue. I just wanted to clarify that.

I didn't know him, if really at all. I'd just liked to imagine he'd appreciate it.
Thanks a lot for preserving this.
