Some Words About Fics And Ideas I Guess

Hey all,

Not a lot has changed since my last blog post. The good news is there is a slight improvement in circumstances, but it's still too early to say if things will stay that way. That said however, I'm going to be attempting to have _something_ written in the coming weeks. Whether or not that is Retrograde or something else entirely has yet to be seen. With this post, you'll hopefully get an idea of where my mind is at right now. Just know that this post isn't so much an "update" as it is a stream of consciousness, so don't worry too much about reading it if you don't want to.

I want to say Retrograde will be the primary focus of these attempts, but really, it comes down to RQK and I getting back on the same page after a fair bit of silence between the two of us. The silence is/was (depending on when you read this) is based around just scheduling conflicts and likely fatigue on both our ends. I know I'm physically very tired and stressed with real life stuff, and given that he's dealing with grad school stuff, I'm sure it's mutual. As he said in [this blog post], we aren't cancelling Retrograde. We both intend on seeing it through to the end, it's just gonna take longer than planned, due to things both within and outside of our control.

In regards to the "something else entirely" thing on my end: for the past few days, I've been kicking around a few ideas for some fics. Most of them are indeed MLP related on some level, with only a few falling outside of the realm of the series. I guess I'm currently experiencing a burst of inspiration as far as this fandom is concerned? I'm not entirely sure myself. Then again, with my ADHD, it could fizzle out in a matter of weeks, days, or even hours. I figured I'd at least share some ideas for possible things. None of them are guaranteed to happen in the slightest though, so don't expect anything, alright? Also know that some of these things will be a little... different from what you may expect from me. Maybe.

For some time now, I've contemplated rewriting that contest entry I made for Oro's first Sunset Shipping Contest, since it's been on my "to-do list" since the contest ended. I'd try to spruce it up, and fix the ending to better reflect the fact that it's an "enhanced" version of the story, not confined to a contest. I've thought up where I could take the story, now that I'm not bound to a word limit. Of course, I've mentioned this a few times now, so it should go without saying that this has been on the back burner for a good while.

Recently, I've been kicking around a few other ideas for things. One's an AU inspired by one of my favorite games (which I had been replaying recently to help combat family related stress), but I won't really go into that game. I kind of want it to be a surprise if I do actually do it, but since it's in an extremely early state, some of the basic outlining of the plot is a little up in the air at the moment. I'm going to take my time with hashing this thing out, since I need to see if the idea has enough longevity as far as personal investment in writing it is concerned. I can't even begin to describe the amount of writing I've started only to never finish. One thing I've mostly settled on is that there will likely be no shipping, or if there is, it's currently up in the air what the ships would even be.

Another thing I'm considering is a story based around a different ship I like involving Sunset that I've been pretty tight lipped about for one reason or another: SunDagi. The ship is something of a... unique case kind of thing for me, as are most of my non-SunLight based ships for Sunset. I'm not sure at this juncture if I'd call it an AU, or if it's going to involve the human versions of the pair in question (as in, the human world's native versions... not the human forms of the Equestrian characters).

One last thing I've considered doing is not actually a writing project, but a writing contest of my own. I've been honestly considering the idea for a good... year and change, and I might finally pull the trigger. I'm not entirely sure what the contest would be centered around thematically, but I have a few ideas for a theme. Should I hammer down a theme, and what the prizes will be, I'll likely open it up for submissions in the Summer, so as many people as possible can enter. If I do go through with hosting a contest, I'll likely put out a call for a small panel of judges sometime before the contest's starting point. We'll see how things go soon-ish.
