The big lie aka Askre promised no more uploads until at the end of the month then uploads a story anyway. · 8:16pm May 9th, 2019

The cumbersome title aside, I did yes post a new story rather soon after I posted a blog where I said I wasn't going to for a short while. More after the break. Oh and if you haven't read it yet, spoilers. :twilightsheepish:

I already mentioned earlier that the reason was I didn't really want to sit on this one, since it happens between Possession in the Crystal Empire and the Last of the Dark Ponies, while the other stories I'm working on will happen after the latter story. This wasn't so much a story moving the series forward, this was more filling in details what happened between a story and its sequel.

So as I also mentioned in the last blog, I wrote this story this week while home sick. I quite honestly looked at the King in the Mountain, another story that lightly touches on what Sombra is doing while laying low and wondered, what else was he doing? He alludes to it that he ventures out of the fort and The Last of the Dark Ponies, heavily implies that he's been spying on the main cast the whole time.

I then fired up word and well, started typing, beginning in Las Pegasus, spying being so heavy on my mind I just wrote the first part of chapter 1 as basically a homage to James Bond. Except with King Sombra, posing as the charming Ebony White.

Yeees, Sombra isn't too creative with names. :facehoof: :rainbowlaugh:

Quite honestly, both this story and King in the Mountain were written as a reversal on the usual "villain hiding, plotting and scheming in a secret lair, cursing the heroes to high heaven and how he's totally gonna beat them" kind of trope. King Sombra is quite often portrayed as exactly that kind of villain and I don't blame people for doing that, it can be entertaining.

However, the way I have written Dark Pony Sombra, it just didn't fit him to do that. Besides, he has a new body, he wants to take it on a test run, several test runs. :twilightoops:

So I figured, why not have the heroes think he's doing that, hiding in a hole somewhere, while Sombra was living the high live in disguise. Most of the first chapter was written with that mindset. Then I couldn't resist having Chrysalis and Sombra comment on some of the villains that had popped up since this is happening in season 5.

Speaking of the Changeling Queen. I kind of wanted to show how the two of them met up, since it's very obvious who the two shadowy figures playing chess in In old Manehattan are. I had already established in Temor that the two of them were allied, and since Temor happens due to one different detail, they are also old allies in this world.

They are not lovers for the record, this is more friendly acquaintances with benefits. Besides, it fit with the mild Jame Bonds feeling I was going with for chapter 1.

Chapter 2 was basically showing how King Sombra has been getting around, carefully using the shadows and donning a disguise when needed be to avoid detection. It was also a good opportunity to show that he really can't resist messing with Private, but knows he can't go too far, least he calls attention to himself.

I had it end in Canterlot in the restaurant scene from Amending Fences to show how careful Sombra is, Princess Twilight isn't even looking for him, he decides to take no chances and soon as he's finished eating, he heads right back to the fort, feeling he's pressed his luck far enough.

So all in all a dark slice of life with Sombra, I had fun writing this, especially the James Bond like chapter 1 and yes "Whipped Cream" is a blatant shout out to all those ridiculously sounding Bond girl names. :rainbowlaugh:

That's all for now.
