I'm trying to get back into writing, have been for a while.

My last completed story was published back in 2017, I began working on a sequel story for months but would constantly get writers block and lots of procrastination. I tried going back to it a few times but could never pick it up again, so I took a break and actually began writing some original stories over on Wattpad. However, the same thing happened again and I don’t know if I’ll ever finish them.

I’ve looked over a lot of my story ideas I’ve made over time and picked out some I’d definitely like to work on at some point this year. I've even started on a couple with a few sentence, but can never seem to continue them. Even when I'd really like to write something, It's like I just can't.

However, I think I do need some good motivation.

I understand that many people on this site and probably in this group have probably gone through exactly the same thing, so any advice you can offer would be great and I’d be very thankful. Also, thanks for following me and I hope to actually get something published before the end of the year.

The best advice I've seen is:
Just write, and don't worry about if it's good or not.
It's not really the most fun experience, but I've personally found when writing little bits and bobs for other people that even if I'm not in the right mindset for the task, I can usually crank out a solid chunk of text just by grinding through it, then come back later and fix it up into something much more presentable...

...or recognize what's fundamentally flawed about it, scrap it, and do a total re-write that'll actually have some direction.

Unfortunately, I don't really throw anything I've jotted down onto Fimfic, and most of it is... not really appropriate to lay out in a reply to a blog post, but suffice it to say the results are typically almost on par with what I write when I'm inspired to do so, and can often serve as a springboard into inspiration because, again, I can go back over what I've put down and then adjust it, change it, improve it, and that in turn provides ideas for how to follow up on what I've put down or altered.

Honestly, sorry if this is all a bit late and unhelpful, but hopefully it'll be enough to provide you with something to go off of, or even just something that'll get you thinking in a direction that will help.

That’s some really great advice, thank you.

Something I find can be really helpful is a speedwriting context. GaPJaxie runs one over here, in which you're given a prompt and have to write something for it in an hour, then everyone reads each others' stories and casts votes on their favourites. While it may not be the story you wish it could be, and you may hate the prompt, the time limit is really good for chasing away procrastination because you have to just write, and can think about it later. That's the best solution I've found for breaking writer's block and habits of procrastination :twilightsheepish:

Interesting idea, thank you very much and I'll look into it
