Common Ground - Episode Reaction · 7:11pm May 5th, 2019
A bit late, been a busy weekend and I just got home now to try catch up on the latest episode. Been hard to avoid spoilers on this one, although what I’ve seen made me curious at least.
Now let’s just sit back and give it a watch myself and see where it’s really going.

Oh gosh, that’s adorable. Oh gosh, just… this. Quibble Pants, the most ANAL ever Daring Doo book nerd fan ever… trying to pretend he likes sports at a sports pony and eager athlete like Rainbow… Oh gosh..

Oh gosh, step family cringe, I did not expect that ever truly happen like this on a kids show like this. But hey, they had a divorced couple earlier too, so why not??
“I’m not even 100% sure what BUCKING means!” Looking forward to see that line being taken out of context in every way possible.
Oh dang… That’s actually quite a real issue to deal with. Usually we see this kind of setup with the kid trying to figure out how to deal with a new step parents. But the step-dad hoping to live up to the biological father in hope of bounding with the kid to be accepted into the family unit, instead of just dating the mom and put the pressure on the kid like in other shows… interesting angle.

Gotta say I’m fascinated with how they actually made the background crowd shot animated instead of the usual stillshots of colour blurs. Neat.

Oh no, he’s getting rule technical. Well.. the only way he can sport is by nerding, so I guess that makes sense.

Cute episode. The usual stuff where you easily predict the direction it’s going, it’s a classic plot theme. What I liked is seeing the return of past characters, and playing with the themes a bit different. A family unit built on one parent with a kid from a past relationship ain’t too new, but usually these shows would focus on the kids’ view and not the new parent trying to be made part of the family. That’s a cool angle to go by.
Of course the usual Hasbro vagueness, but pretty sure the biological father is dead, by use of “was” and talk about worrying about forgetting him.
A cute episode. A bit cringey, but the show definitely has had worse cringe than this, was still more cute than cringy.
