Tumbleweed vs. Twilight's Seven! · 2:43am Apr 21st, 2019
Saturday night, and I'm talking about pony show.
For the record, I could (and perhaps should?) be out and about being social, but I've got to wake up early for holiday bidness tomorrow, so ... here we are.
But yeah! 200 episodes! That's a hell of an accomplishment-- a lot of cartoons barely make it to 65. Or, well, that's the way it used to be. And on top of that, it's a heist episode! If, uh, a slightly disconnected one. I should have seen it coming, based on the title, but for whatever reason I was thinking they'd go for a Magnificent Seven route ... though that might be a bit, er, bloodier than one would expect from a children's show. But hey, that's what fanfic is for!
Speaking of fanfic, I totally called using shards of Chrysalis' throne as anti-magic talismans! And, uh ... I actually had some vague ideas about putting Zephyr Breeze into the Royal Guard as well, but I haven't written that fic just yet. Ehem. But still! More proof that I am at best at ponies.
In any case, as fun and whacky as this episode was, I kiiiind of wish it'd been a little, well, tighter. There's a lot of fun to be had in a proper heist episode. Though the big reveal with Spike and Luna was honestly pretty great. I imagine Luna was mostly pissed off that someone put a flock of goddamn geese in her throne room.
Tomorrow's going to entail several hours of driving-- but I'm kind of looking forward to it. Mostly 'cause I've found I often get a lot of neat ideas while I'm behind the wheel. That's where stuff like BY THE BLACK AXE OF NIGHTMARE MOON!, Let Me Tell You About My Character, and Brain Problem Situation has come from. So ... that's something to look forward to, right?
Or I might just devote my drive-thinking to 'original' fiction. Go fig.
The luna spike reveal was great. It's extremley hard in any show, let alone a cartoon aimed at this demo, to walk the line between obvious and impossible to figure out plot twists. But finally I didn't feel like an idiot for not connecting the dots for something that was foreshadowed.
It was a brilliantly silly episode. Love the twist!
