My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Season 9 Episode 4: "Twilight's Seven" (SPOILERS) · 4:01pm Apr 20th, 2019

In which Twilight abandons all her responsibilities to act like a bratty little sister again with Shining Armor and EVERYPONY has best face.

Luna's pissy face is incredible.

The episode opens with Twilight explaining an old game she and Shining Armor used to play, where they competed to be 'sibling supreme'. A toy crown is involved.

Celestia and Luna have decided, in the wake of Sombra's attack, to beef up Canterlot Castle's security, and have called Shining Armor in to reinforce security. They call Twilight Sparkle and friends in to test Shining Armor's security measures, with the Sibling Supreme crown on the line.

I'm just gonna cut this one short: this is Pony Ocean's Eight, with the Mane Seven going off on all kinds of hilarious digressions, including Applejack basically regurgitating the plot of Hannah Montana The Movie.

And the surprise return of Zephyr Breeze. Oh my god. XD

This episode is FREAKING HILARIOUS. So many meme faces.

I love the twist ending. Sneaky Spike and Luna.

10/10, this is one of the most FUN episodes in a while. XD

TBH I saw Spike ending with the crown a mile away, BUT, I did not anticipate how he did it. Well played, Spike!

"You thought it was a Twilight and Shining Armor episode but no, it was me, a Spike episode!" :moustache:

I knew Luna would be involved with Shinning Armor's failure somehow. She was just too pissed about him doing the security and his methods.

I loved seeing the cast's ideas for this one; they were all really funny. Bring on those memes. It's really confirmed Spike is Shining Armor and Twilight's little brother; the little sneak learned his planning from the best, and it was cute how they all came together. I knew there was no way Zephyr could've ever gotten into the Royal Guard.

They sure gave Spike a lot of love here.

A side effect of living with the smartest pony around.

This win for the best episode for just one thing.

In Pinkie's Imagine Spot, they showed Asteroid B612 with the baobabs from The Little Prince.
That alone deserves praise.

Great episode, I'm always happy to see Zephyr Breeze he's a great example of a character who's meant to be annoying but doesn't go too far and just become unlikable. Unlike say Pony Head from Star vs The Forces of Evil who just ends up being the absolute worst.

This was just a lot of fun to watch I particularly love Applejack's whole alter ego thing and how after telling the story it's immediately stated that she may have just made the whole thing up, a good way to get around people inevitably complaining about how unlikely it is such a thing could be kept secret until now.

I loved the twist ending.. and it even explained how Zephyr got that job.

BRILLIANT!

Same, I Had that feeling but the HOW. Oh how I loved the HOW he got it.

Wasn't this also Ep 200?

They called in Shining Armor to help increase security.

Shining Armor, whose defense plan against Sombra amounted to "throw a couple guards at him while Cadance and I go panic instead of turning on the magic artifact that was shown able to take him out last time."

That Shining Armor.

Yeah, the Legion of Evil is gonna steamroll them...

Luna's annoyed horse noises were the best.

They always say no plan survives the first contact, and I think this episode proves that.

Although I have to ask one thing: If Twilight was using her friends to help her steal the crown when Shining Armor only directly challenged her, wouldn't her methods be cheating? Yeah yeah, Shining never said outside help wasn't allowed, but the whole thing is supposed to be a sibling rivalry.

This was a fun episode.

I gotta to admit, Shining Armor's security measures were clever, using the remains of Chrysalis' throne was a very impressive callback and a smart move when it came to avoid any Intruder is using a spell, and the doors only being able to be opened buy a Royal Gaurds armor is an idea that I've seen a few fanfics but never outright executed in the series itself. Kudos to that.... though I do question the practicality of all those fans he installed. It seems more like a safety hazard for any Pegasus patrols.

Rarity was just delightful in this episode, seeing her go over-the-top devious on so many occasions is just a treat.

Also, Luna and Spike being the unknown third party aiming for the crown was great, complete with them sabotaging both sides was absolutely brilliant (really says a lot when Luna purposely put Zephyr in charge because she knew he'd suck at his job).

And in the end, Spike gets to wear the crown and is acknowledged as their sibling, so sweet!

Maybe, but Shining Armor anticipated the rest of the Elements' involvement. He knew, step by step, who would do what and when.

This was one of the best episodes I've seen in some time. It's a definite improvement over last week. I heard one of the VAs wrote the script, but I wasn't paying attention to the opening credits. I'll have to rewatch it to see who it was.

Oh... shoot. I have to watch it again. :pinkiehappy::yay::raritystarry:

Shining Armor was making use of all the resources available to him through the Crown, like the remains of Chryssys' castle and Swirly binding them to the palace, the Royal Guards themselves, whoever made the anti-flight fans and the trapdoor, etc. He may have challenged Twilight directly, but with the expectation that she would also pool her resources to beat his.

I guess you could say Shining Armor and Twilight never saw it coming...

This episode was hilarious. I love how Luna worked with Spike behind the scenes and how she and Celestia seem to have another “Royal Problem” between them.

The biggest development with this issue was Spike’s place in Twilight’s family. In all honesty, I am fine if Spike is considered Twilight’s little brother, but I still feel he fits better as her son since she hatched him and raised him.

I'm gonna be honest, I haven't really been keeping up with the series very well -- and this sounds like the first episode in quite a while that I'm really eager to see!

I'm inclined to say that Twilight was simply too young to be considered anybody's mother when she hatched Spike, even if objectively that's the role she played in his life. (If she hadn't become Celestia's personal student at the same time she hatched him, I would have assumed that her parents did a lot to help raise him, but she might not have been visiting home all that often while busy with her studies.)

...how long is Spike going to be a baby, anyway? The more we learn about the life cycles of Equestria's various sapients, the more confused I get. Ponies apparently reach physical adulthood long before developing their full emotional maturity, and I guess dragons remain babies for a long time but can be fully literate, ambulatory, and well-spoken while still babies. (And judging by the other dragons we've seen, baby dragons might be as mentally and emotionally developed as they're ever going to get...)

Shining got to be totally competent.
Spike confirmed as little brother.
Nobody else was made incompetent for the sake of the plot, just outplayed.
Everyone had great faces and lines.
This episode easily breaks the top ten for me. Maybe even top five.

The opening credits stated that the actresses who voiced the Mane 6 were credited for the story.

Like, all of them.

Which basically confirmed what we already knew from the creation of the episode.

I didn't particularly like the "everypony do their own thing" part, but once they went back to Twilight's plan, I liked it. Rarity's "gruff guard" voice was great. Hell, I think Applejack had the most success in the initial try.

Also, return of the PUDDING face. Also, Rainbow Dash always dresses in style.

Also, finally Spike is acknowledged as family. They even acknowledge him in the title.

I think Luna sitting on the throne stroking that goose like Blowfeld with his cat was my favorite bit. That killed me!

under any other circumstances I'd agree but this was the 200th episode and I found myself disapointed by the lack of antics we got in 100. if I'm wrong about that episode numeration I'll delete this comment

storm king invades no security increase
king sombra: eep we gotta buff security.
took them long enough

They're really showing off those female guard vectors, aren't they?

The more we learn about the life cycles of Equestria's various sapients, the more confused I get.

Spike's technically already gone through/started dragon puberty since he has wings now. But it's easy to assume that for a race that long-lived, getting past the century mark is when one is considered past the "stupid young adult" phase.

As for ponies, I have to assume a lifespan of several centuries, like the elves of D&D. It's the only way I can think of that explains how Granny Smith was around for the founding of Ponyville hundreds of years ago as well as the cake twins, Flurry Heart, CMC and rest of Cheerilee's class haven't grown at all.

The question is brother, whatcha gonna do, when Twilight Sparkle, Princess of Friendship, runs wild on YOU!?

(Bonus Points If you get the reference.)

Man, when I was a kid they ran the WWF Superstars of Wrestling on Saturday morning with the cartoons...

5048057
Yep! Back in the 80s there was a half-hour Saturday morning show which had like, 2 matches and a bunch of kid-friendly promos. Hulk, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Taker, and their ilk were regulars. There was also a cartoon!

I wish I could’ve seen it. But I was born in 2000, so I missed all that.
