So, I've just posted a new story to Fimfic and it may look a bit... familiar to something else I wrote a couple years ago.
So, to be brief, So You've Slept With Your Best Friend went through a lot of changes while writing it. It started out as an idea for lighthearted rib poking at certain fanfic tropes about navigating the awkward aftermath of banging your best friend entirely on impulse set between Sunset Shimmer and Princess Twilight. That isn't at all what we got, but like I said, a lot of changes.
While I was bouncing ideas off of my good mate SoloBrony he suggested a somewhat off the wall premise he felt could at least get Pony!Twilight and Sunset in that position and at the time I didn't feel like I could make it work. That it was just too much background to fit into the frame I wanted, and too many complex emotions, and yes, I do see the irony right now given the end result, but, there we go. Writing - it's complicated.
Well, on Sunday we were discussing Equestria Girls and it had been a topic of discussion for a few days between us and I suddenly had an epiphany.
I knew how I could have made the premise work.
So I told Solo, and he demanded I write it.
And, well, here we are.
It's not a sequel, or a prequel, or a remake. It's... kind of it's own thing. A different take that old nugget of premise could have been, plus a few years extra characterization, life, and writing experience. If this all sounds a bit self indulgent to you, hey, that makes two of us. I wrote it though, and I liked what came out as its own thing, and so has everyone who's read it so far.
Plus, if you liked the first story, chances are you'll dig this one too.
