There are many things in this life that, when used wrongly, can do great evil. However, these things are not evil in and of themselves.

- Wine is meant as a pleasant drink, to be enjoyed when people celebrate or come together. However, drinking too much lead to drunkenness and debauchery, to the point of fighting and even killing one another, sometimes without even remembering it.
- Sex within marriage is good; it is the cement on a relationship and likewise was designed to be pleasant. However, when adultery and fornication happen, a good thing has been twisted to be used to satisfy ungodly desires. Sex outside marriage destroys or damages the family unit and causes great distress even if good relationships are saved or salvaged in the end.
- Money can be used for charity, or to purchase things needed (as in, groceries, job-related items, etc.) for oneself or one's family. It sadly, can be put to reprehensible use to gratify the self and to build up oneself at the cost of one's fellow human beings.
- Music can be good or bad. It can be used to honor God, to bring hope, to encourage, to inspire. It can also be used to dishonor, insult, and again be used to satisfy the lusts of the flesh.
- Games, including video games, are not all evil in and of themselves. Games like Rise of Nations and Civ games can be fun and engaging. However, when we allow these things to become addicting and to take up our time at the expense of others, including one's own family, then we've set our entertainment above other people, and above God.
- Food isn't evil; it is in fact necessary for us to live. It is likewise enjoyable and pleasant, and cultures around the world have historically used the meal to bring people together (such as the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner does, or is supposed to). Once again, though, it can spiral out of control, to the point of us eating purely for taste and enjoyment rather than for survival or fellowship, causing health problems (such as initially being overweight and eventually to much worse bodily harm).

In short, good things can be twisted for evil. I have my own struggles, mostly with gaming (addiction to just one more turn, one more wonder, one more building in Civ 5 just today, ended up eating dinner way too late sometime past 9 PM and ignoring my little brother's desire to play with me on the N64), with some music (I am attracted to historical rap battles while recognizing that all people do in them is boast of themselves and insult their opponents, for example), political YouTube videos (where a lot of cursing and general insults abound, even from people I generally agree with), and a lot with food (I have immense trouble in putting away the chips after eating hot dogs, chicken, or pizza and carving up an apple instead). :ajsleepy:

With a nature toward sin we cannot stop doing all the evil in our lives through our own efforts.

Key part of that last phrase being, "through our own efforts."

Thankfully, there is more at work than evil and sin.

"Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin (Romans 7:24-25)."

Paul at once despairs of ever being able to stop himself from doing evil, but praises God for Jesus and His atoning death on the cross for sin. This doesn't mean we are immune to consequences in the current world, and it will never make it okay to do evil, but eternal condemnation, for those who follow Jesus, no longer applies. One should use this knowledge, as much as is possible, to turn from sin and do what is right.

May the Lord Jesus go with, keep, and enlighten all of us.

Most of what you said aren’t really addictions or debatably even sinful. I don’t really find anything wrong with listening to music that is inherently aggressive or angry. As a matter of fact, in my case I find it extremely therapeutic. Heavy Metal and aggressive variants of Rap might be the most demonized genres of music, but you should also come to find that there are Christian subsidies of both genres.

As for gaming and time with technology in general, I often spend around 8-12 hours a day in front of some sort of screen and I don’t see anything inherently wrong with it. I say this because I’m a computer science student and I’m part of the competitive eSports scene at my university so it’s for work purposes more than anything. My only problem is that sometimes projects and projects that should take no more than a couple hours sometimes take me multiple more hours because I can be easily distracted and I spend a lot of time perfecting, messing around and fumbling around with everything in my virtual surroundings ranging from script writing programs, to console and arcade video game emulators.

Because of this, as you can imagine I don’t have much of a social life or interest in finding a love relationship. But at the same time, I could make a lot of money one day, and if my grades are any indication, it’s where I’m heading.
