Pony Variants: Snow Ponies · 7:55am Feb 20th, 2019
Due to my own headcanon and certain sources, this idea popped into my head that I just had to brainstorm it, so... here ya go:
Snow Ponies
Prior to Princess Luna's corruption and downfall as Nightmare Moon, there lived a young pegasus filly who was blind, named Snowdrop. For a school assignment, Snowdrop created the first ever Snowflake and was praised for it and all that it symbolized by the Royal Sisters. As such, Snowdrop grew up to be an artist much beloved by those around her.
As a young mare, she caught the eye of a unicorn noble, who fell in love with her, for her beauty, her gentle spirit, and her breathtaking creativity. He wooed her and easily won her heart, and they fell so happily in love that it wasn't long before Snowdrop became pregnant.
Alas, not all were pleased by this romance, for a unicorn noble mare who sought Snowdrop's lover for herself became hatefully jealous, and swore to tear them apart, no matter what. Sometime after Snowdrop gave birth, the approached Snowdrop's lover and bewitched his mind, ordering him to do away with his illegitimate foal.
Snowdrop would find her beloved standing over the cradle, with the foal they had conceived lying dead under the baby blanket. No longer able to sense the warmth of her baby, devastated by this apparent betrayal, Snowdrop went mad with anger and grief, unlocking a magic inside her (which she had inherited from her father) that brought forth a terrible cold, which she unleashed upon her lover, killing him.
The noble mare took advantage of this to turn everypony against Snowdrop, labeling her a murder. Although the Royal Sisters wanted to help Snowdrop, she was too far gone in her bitterness and despair to listen to reason, as she fled to the Frozen North. Despite many search parties sent to find her, Snowdrop appeared to have vanished without a trace, and the Royal Sisters were heartbroken as they came to believe that their dear young friend died in the cold.
In truth, Snowdrop survived and fled to Mount Everhoof, her heart broken and burdened with unbearable pain. Using the magic she had unlocked within herself, she manifested a palace of ice and took refuge within, where she then froze herself within ice, hoping to reunite with her child in the afterlife. This did not kill her however, instead placing her into a long frozen sleep...
Millennia later, the ascension of a new alicorn roused Snowdrop from her sleep (shortly before the return of Nightmare Moon) and she awoke to a new time. Having slept in cold for so long dulled the warmth in Snowdrop's heart, and she chose to continue to isolate herself. However, pony explorers scaling Mount Everhoof discovered her palace and to prevent them from revealing her existence to the outside world, she captured them.
Speaking to her prisoners, Snowdrop found her heart, as cold as it had become, yearning for companionship, but even so she refused to allow love to weaken her again. Snowdrop then infused these ponies with her winter magic, transforming them into a new breed of pony. They became her servants, her guards, while she proclaimed herself the Ice Queen of the North, ruler and matriarch of the Snow Ponies.
The Snow Ponies are a Variant of the natural Pony Tribes, and differ by their icy demeanor, frigid regard for outsiders, and their unquestioning devotion to their queen. They still feel emotion, like love, joy, and compassion, but can come off as distant and chilly. By the infusion of Snowdrop's winter magic, the ponies that became the first generation of Snow Ponies changed, their coats and manes turning into wintry or icy colors of whites, blues, purples, while each type changed in appearance and abilities.

Cold Immunity
Snow Ponies are immune to extreme temperatures of cold. They still feel the cold but it doesn't bother or harm them.
Power over Ice and Snow
To varying degrees, Snow Ponies can conjure and control ice, snow, frost, and cold. Early on, Snowdrop realized this particular power was influenced by emotion, which led her to chilling her emotions to maintain control of her powers, and doing the same to her subjects who couldn't (or wouldn't) manage their emotions.
An experienced Snow Pony can manifest snow flurries, blizzards, and conjure ice constructs in almost any shape and form, such as Snowdrop's ice palace.
Magical Ice
Snow Ponies can manifest a Magical Ice that doesn't melt or break like normal ice does. They use this Magical Ice to build their homes or craft into their armor and weapons
Thermal Vision & Sensing
Even before she unlocked her powers, Snowdrop had the uncanny ability to sense the warmth around her, especially the warmth of ponies and those she cared about. After her baby was murdered, no longer able to sense her foal's warmth, Snowdrop's despair unlocked her powers, and this ability evolved into the ability to "see" sources of heat, making up for Snowdrop's physical blindness.
Snow Ponies are able to "see" sources of heat, whether it be sunlight, fire, magic, or even body warmth.
Empathy
Snow Ponies can sense the "warmth" of others hearts, knowing how much love and joy is in somepony's heart, or how little, which is how they judge outsiders.
Temporal Freezing
A rare power among the Snow Ponies, this was the power to freeze the flow of time around them
Different Abilities
As the Snow Ponies are comprised of Earth Ponies, Pegasi, and Unicorns, each type has certain abilities the others don't:
*Snow Earth Ponies (sometimes called Polar Ponies) are much larger in size and physical strength, and have thicker coats as well as a layer of blubber, similar to polar bears, which is how they got their nickname, they have a powerful ice breath, and they can even grow healthy and nourishing crops in the middle of winter
*Snow Pegasi are able to fly even in the thickest whiteout or most hazardous blizzards, and whenever they flap their wings they release snowflakes, and can learn to launch hail or icicles to attack, and they can conjure icy winds and frozen gales around themselves
*Snow Unicorns have their horns replaced with horns of Magical Ice, and can conjure lights similar to the Aurora Borealis/Northern Lights, which they use to mesmerize/hypnotize, they can walk on snow without leaving hoofprints or thin ice without it breaking underneath their weight, and they can bring figures and statues made of ice or snow to life to serve them
Though Snow Ponies thrive in cold, they are not harmed by warmth and are no more vulnerable to it than any other pony. Though warmth and heat can weaken their powers.
So Snowdrop is the Mr Freeze of ponies? It's a very interesting concept for a pony type one i've never seen of thought of before.
I'm seeing many parallels to Frozen here you must be a fan apparently

I like the Frozen and Winter's War references. I don't have a character for this particular race of pony, sorry to say. Hopefully you can find some users who have an OC you can include. Looking forward to your upcoming stories.
The ponies are a bit overpowered, but I love the idea.
