Author's Intuition: The Learning Writer ~ Creating a Character · 8:43pm Feb 7th, 2019
Wow. It’s been a long time since I’ve done one of these. But I figure if I was to ever come back to one of these types of blogs, I figured I’d start on something a little more complex. Something that a story cannot entirely be without; and that is a character. Not just any character though, but a good character that a writer has to have — hopefully not some cardboard cut-out of a bad archetype.
Whether or not I really do something like this justice isn’t the main important factor. What I speak about over here is what has always worked out for me. Maybe, in a way, I could help a few of you out there by writing something like this. However, I must stress that this method has always worked for me. So it’s not the end all be all method of figuring out a character, as I like to make my characters as detailed as possible.
So my method may not work for some people out there. This is just my own way and interpretation of coming up with characters. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy and maybe get inspired to write some characters. After all, it’s all about experimenting with what could work, what’s different, and what’s unique or new. On a last minute note I decided to make this a blog series of sorts.
But a blog series I hope to have updated every other day. I figure it’d help me be able to touch upon each individual aspect of a character with enough care to hopefully highlight the important aspects of a character. Some blogs may be short as some details are relatively minor, although don’t disclose those minor characteristics. For every detail (depending on the character’s role) is important to take and consider in the scheme of a story.
With that, however, I shall let this end. But our journey has only just begun. Let us see what can become of a character that is nurtured with care and compassion.
